Hey There! It's 8:24 AM EDT, 48°F, drizzle, winds 6 MPH E
Yesterday was a quiet day in many regards, but it was also a day that is going to bring a different atmosphere to the rest of the summer. I'm trying two include two new small touches to my morning routine. One is including the wind direction and speed in the weather. I think knowing how hard the wind might be blow paints a more accurate picture of the day overall. The second is cleaning my glasses every morning. I don't clean my glasses anywhere near as often as I should, so I think if I add cleaning them to my routine behaviors, I'll be better off. Now if I can only get to the point where I am inserting my hearing aid in my ears as well!
The morning was quiet enough. We were expecting our cleaning woman to show up, so we went through preparing for that. It was also garbage day, so I got the garbage to the curb. But she never showed up. She made us aware when we returned from AZ that her husband was dying, and yesterday it appears they were going to take him into hospice care. So that's sad news. We are unsure of when she might be able to come back.
I decided at that point to go out for a walk. I'm also trying some small changes there. The roads in the park are in abysmal shape, and I do not expect they will be repaired anytime soon. So I am entering and leaving the park from a different entrance, and parking in a different location. I am still walking basically the same route along the shoreline, but I've added some distance by parking in the different lot. It's now about 1.8 miles instead of 1.6. Not a major change, to be sure, but I can even add to that a bit as I want. I can also do just one single loop, but I do like staying in the park as I walk and keeping to the shoreline. It feels more in tune with the natural surroundings.
I had some breakfast when I came back, and then settled in to look into this Sourcefeed a bit more. I have this idea that Sourcefeed can serve as a complete website, albeit text only. I am trying to see if I can add images and audio (not interested in video). Images, yes - but audio is proving to be a challenge. It may, however, not be necessary in the long run. I was thinking podcast, but I'm not sure I have anything worth saying in a podcast that I can't write about. So maybe it will be text only, with an image here and there. I really like this idea of simplifying even more my internet footprint, and Mr. Godier has been really busy lately making all these things possible. This blog is being replicated at Sourcefeed as part of my experiment. I still have to convince myself it's worth the move. I see more opportunity for discovery at Sourcefeed, but that was never the purpose here. So more thought and experimentation is required.
I also got all the information I needed from Son2 to begin shooting promo videos for the studio's website. I should be getting to producing those after today.
I lost track of the time, and all of a sudden it was time to take DW to her cardiology appointment. She has been in aFib since early March, and we have waited until we returned home to see her cardiologist. When she got checked out in AZ, the doctors there were not too concerned because her actual heart rate was fine and under control. She's had it under control since then as well, as we check it with her Apple Watch every day. Her only symptom is that she gets out of breath when doing chores or walking too much or otherwise physically exerting herself. She had a cardioversion done in April 2024, but it seems to have run its course.
We got there early, so I grabbed a sandwich at a fast food place, and then we went in. The PA was nice, but a tad robotic - he seemed to have trouble making easy eye contact. Long story short, DW will now be going in for a cardiac ablation, which is the next step up from a cardioversion. It tries to get the heart back in rhythm by zapping the nerve endings that are the cause of the irregular heartbeat. She had a choice of either doing a second cardioversion, or the ablation. We're doing the ablation, and I think that's probably the best choice, since cardioversions usually don't last much longer than two years, and each one you do is apparently less effective than the one before. The ablation seems to have more staying power.
We'll be doing this sometime over the summer as we get put into the system and wait to get an appointment and all that. It will be done around the same time I'm supposed to be performing, but I think we will be able to schedule the procedure in such a way that the two won't interfere. Given all the preparatory appointments and the "length of the line" so to speak, we probably wouldn't be able to get in for the procedure before that anyway. So this will be hanging over us for the summer. She remains in no immediate danger, as the blood thinner reduces her chance of a stroke, and the PA did say she can exercise and doesn't have any restrictions on movement. But when she feels winded she needs to stop what she'd doing and rest.
When we got back home I got back to looking into more Sourcefeed information. Dinner was leftovers. Watched a baseball game, chatted with Son2 about maybe buying a used Nissan Leaf as a second "around town" car to mitigate gas prices, and then a video from my AZ riding partner. Bedtime was 11:03 PM. I've been sleeping well lately. Not sure why, but I will take it - sleep is good!
