Yesterday morning I got up a bit earlier than usual because I had work to do on the podcast that I wanted to get done before the day really got going. I was under a bit of a timeline because I usually send the proof out on Monday night, so I wanted to get the proof out as early as I could on Tuesday so my proof listener could hear it. It still took longer than I thought, and even after I thought I had it done, when I was listening to it myself, I caught a mistake that I had to go back and correct by re-recording it. But I eventually got it done, and then I wrote the show notes, and then I wrote the "thank you" emails to the guests to get them the link. I schedule everything to be released today, so I'll be keeping an eye on things this morning to make sure everything went through.
Son2 hit me up on chat to let me know he was buying his new car. We had a bit of a discussion on how much down payment he wanted to have, and he wanted to borrow $5K from us at the parental rate of 0% and pay us back the loan over time. I gave him the money, since he's been very good in the past about paying back loans. But I think buying a new car will stretch him a bit, because he's going to have to pay his own insurance and such. He really wants a brand new car, and while I believe new cars these days are not worth the depreciation hit, I can't blame him for wanting one. I tried to talk him into a lightly used newer car, but he wanted the brand new, no one else ever owned it car. He'll need to make that thing run for 10 years to get the value out of it, which it can probably do. It's a base model Toyota Corolla, so at least he bought the most reliable brand.
After that, I put air in all the tires of the EV, and that took away the trouble lights on the dash. The wheels were pretty low on air. Then DW and I went to vote in our local school district elections. Things aren't really the best around here, but at least the school district seems to live within its means, and the board candidates are not jerks. We took the new EV, and while we were voting, my former colleague and his wife showed up. We showed off the new EV, and they told us a story about how their son, who took their old Prius back to Washington State, broke down with it after a few months of owning it. The wheel joints had rusted clean through, something no mechanic caught before he took the car. I believe the car had over 200K miles on it, so it lasted, and as usual in this part of the country the frame gives out before the engine due to winter salt and snow.
In the afternoon I took the EV out for a little spin running errands, exactly the kind of thing I bought it for. I had a package I needed to send to Son1, so I whipped that together and headed for the shipping store. Then I went to Harbor Freight to see if they had a heavy duty extension cord for the EV. Nope. Then I went to Home Depot to look for the same thing. They had one, but they seemed expensive. So I checked the one on line at Amazon, and it was twice the length and $15 cheaper. I hated to do it, but Amazon won out. At least I tried. While at Home Depot I bought a new battery for the second fob and installed it, so now I have two working fobs. Then I went to the grocery store to look for half and half, and they were out. So I bought DW some flavored creamer, which she likes, and myself a small package of cookies. And then back home. The EV felt like riding in a gliding car - it didn't feel like driving at all. Because there's no engine noise, you just feel like you're gliding along on the road. I'm amazed at this little vehicle, which costs less than a golf cart! Let's hope it continues to hold up.
When I got home, I mostly puttered around downstairs, doing nothing particularly meaningful. It was hot, so I sat under the ceiling fan to stay a bit cooler. We had a dinner of chicken and vegetables in noodles with a peanut sauce. Then I watched the ballgame - another nailbiting win. I watched a video from my AZ riding guy, and I also found a forum for EV owners of my model. so I read through some of the topics and posts there. It seems I did OK with my purchase, looking at some of the information there. Bedtime was around 11:15
