It's a very dreary day this morning, just the type of morning where all you'll want to do is sit around the house drinking coffee and doing a little writing. Might as well get started with that.
Yesterday was par for the course. Tuesday is garbage day around here, so I packed up all my garbage and got it out to the curb. I don't use a garbage can because I'm too lazy to go back later and bring it back from the curb, and our city's garbage collectors have a tendency to throw the cans anywhere they like. I don't put my garbage out until a couple of hours before they come, so I don't worry about animals. Surprisingly enough, there isn't an animal problem in this part of the city concerning getting into garbage.
I completed my morning routine of headlines, coffee, and a walk. The road leading into the park, as well as the lakefront parking lot, is so bad and full of potholes that I've taken to parking in a different location, which has the added benefit of adding about .4 of a mile to the walk. The cool mornings in the 50s with sun are the best days for walking, and we had one yesterday.
When I got home I had a bowl of oat bran for breakfast, and Son2 hit me up on chat with the news that he's out shopping for a new car. I don't buy new cars anymore, but he seems to feel that he wants one and is tired of driving the car I bought for him out of college. He's put 100K miles on it, so no complaints there. He's doing well financially, and I think he got the new car bug from riding around in his GF's car. I tried to talk him into a used car about three years old, but he seems set on buying his first new "adult" car. Fair enough. At least he's looking at a Toyota Corolla, nothing fancy or stupid.
I had to pay an insurance bill for two other cars, and I don't know why, but I didn't look up the price of insuring the used Leaf we are buying. I did a bit of web surfing until DW left for a lunch date with one of her friends. Once she left, I took care of two chores. I moved the snowblower back to its summer storage spot in the back yard, but I forgot to add the Stabil gas treatment into it. I'll have to remember to do that today. Then I put the battery back in the RV. It started right up once the battery was installed. I put these batteries on trickle chargers all winter while I'm away, and I am glad I do. One more battery to go - the scooter. I also bought another cover for the Trail 125. I need to start that up as well, as I haven't done so since we got left WA. Seems I buy a cheap cover every year for that thing. Finally, I drove back up to the campsite and covered the trailers and the riding mower with the dried-out tarps, and put the smaller ones away. Given this morning's rain, I am glad I did so.
I took a nap when I got home, and it was hard waking up. The walk combined with the physical labor kind of wears me out a bit. When I got up I took a couple of Advil and drank a Starbucks DoubleShot I happened to have from the return trip. Then I did an interview at 6PM for my podcast, a musician coming to town with his band. After the interview, we had leftovers and a salad for dinner.
I tuned in the ballgame, which I did not realize had started at 6pm. A good win, and a decent night for my rotisserie team. After the game I finished the evening researching the idea of charging an EV with a power station. I have this notion that I can charge the Leaf for free if I can get the timing right and use a power station charged with solar panels and then plug the Leaf in from there. It can be done, it seems, but is it really practical? Lots of moving parts, and for someone who doesn't have a garage, the storage issue is real. I don't think it's worth it in the long run, but I know I will try once or twice just to see and measure what happens. Bedtime was 11:17 PM.
