Hey There! It's 4:08 PM Mountain Standard Time (MST), 62°, sunny.
Well, it was bound to happen on this trip. Missed a day. Of course, I could write two posts and backdate them and make it look like I didn't miss a day, but that would be cheating. My vast and demanding audience would never forgive me.
Yesterday was an "off" day, so DW and I tried to do a few tourist things. All we really got done was a car tour of Sweetwater TX, and a visit to the WW2 Women's Airforce Service Pilots Museum. The WASPs were a collection of 1072 women pilots who spent the war years shuttling airplanes across the country, freeing male pilots to serve overseas. It was a very nice museum - small, but with good taste and clear exhibits. They trained at Avenger Field in Sweetwater, and the museum is located in the last two hangers that remain. The first hanger has the exhibits and educational information, while the second hanger had 4 of the preserved planes the women flew. It was a good way to spend some time.
We made a stop at Walmart to pick up some food and Miralax for DW, who continues to be plagued by her diverticulitis. I bought some plantain chips and a Sangria-flavored soda. The we spent the rest of the evening in the room, just killing time. I went down a camping equipment rabbit hole, which is always a bad sign. It's the reason I missed writing yesterday. I remembered just as I was about to tuck myself into bed, but I didn't have the enery or will power to get up and type. No big deal.
On the road again today for another six hours, and the last stop before arriving in AZ. I had a bacon, egg, and cheese burrito that was quite delicious at our first bathroom stop. I wish I liked green salsa, but I ate it plain. Even as such it was fantastic. The rest of the day was spent on the road. 80 MPH speed limit through west Texas. It sometimes amazed me how geography can change so quickly. We went through the energy hubs of Midland and Odessa, and once we cleared those towns, the scenery became one wide vast nothingness. I didn't even see any cattle grazing. Then the landscape changed again to hills about an hour east of El Paso. We'll probably be in hill and canyon country for the remainder of the trip.
There's a pizza party downstairs in the lobby, so I will probably attend that, and then waste more time until bedtime. Looking forward to tomorrow's arrival.
