Hey There! It's 8:42 AM MST, 48°F, sunny
Yesterday was a day filled with some action, but not much adventure. I feel like I did a lot, but the accomplishments were small.
It was an off day from walking, so I did my morning routine without one. DW was on the phone a lot yesterday, so I sort of mucked about a bit more in the morning than I should have.
While getting my new windshield put on, I noticed that my USB port on my Honda 125 had died for whatever reason. I suspect water damage. At any rate, I began to play around with using a power bank as a power source for my phone and GPS while out riding. I rigged up a temporary system where I plugged the units into the power bank with long cords, and then put the power bank in a pocket of my riding jacket. It worked, but of course it's not the best solution. It makes getting off and on the bike a pain, because I have to remove and re-insert the plugs every time. But for an average afternoon of riding, the amount of power is sufficient. I took a test ride to find out. I also pulled out my bluetooth earplugs that wrap around my neck so I can hear directions from the phone or GPS. They work as well, but I always feel like they're going to fall out of my ears.
I had to cut the test ride way short because my gas gauge was blinking and I hadn't bought along my wallet. When I got home, I grabbed the wallet, but I also took the opportunity to see how much gas from the small 750 L gas bottle I carry gets into the bike. Turns out it's about 1/3 of the tank, or two ticks on the indicator. That's good to know, because I don't think I'd ever be out so far that I'd be 30 miles away from a gas station.
I went back and filled up the bike with gas. Then I came home and started doing research for some items for the bike. I bought two power banks, one waterproof and the other not. One of them will go back. I bought a tank bag so I can drop the power bank into that. And I bought two USB port replacements. One will also go back, as the second one seems to be plug-and-play. I'd rather use a USB port if I can, and finding one that's easy for a dope like me to replace is good. So lots of stuff coming, some of which will have to be sent back.
DW took a long nap yesterday, so I took a late afternoon ride out to Carr Canyon, which goes into a small section of the Coronado National Forest. I just went up and back, and did not stay long. I was surprised by how cold it got as soon as I was not in the sun. I don't know why that continues to surprise me.
Dinner was a hamburger with sweet potato fries. In the evening I found a little more Honda Trail content (that's how I found the plug-and-play USB port), and I also watched a few videos from Sidetrack Adventures. He is very, very good. I should go to his channel and drop him a comment. Bedtime was 11PM.
