Hey There! It's 8:51 AM EST, 43°F, overcast/windy. A warming trend seems to be in the offing.
Yesterday began early because it was Cleaning Lady Day, so I had to clear off a few surfaces on top of my regular morning routine. I extended it a bit until she left around 10:30. Then I got on the treadmill for 30 minutes, had some breakfast, and showered. That got me to about noon.
I added whatever blurbs and images to the newsletter I had received. I have one more picture left to receive. DW and I also got into a chat discussion with Son2 about Christmas Eve. He has some complications with his new girlfriend, who has two kids. We told him we were flexible and willing to travel to her house for Christmas Eve dinner, but the matter is still in limbo. When new people enter your life and routine, there are always complications. Son2 has always come home, made the 7 fishes dinner with DW, and then hung around and relaxed until his next shift at work. to be continued.
Then I went to visit my senior tech student, and all she wanted was to give me her 2014 Mac Mini. So I set to work erasing the drive and re-installing the OS. I wanted to do that in front of her so she knew I wouldn't be poking around in her stuff when I got it home. It took about 2 hours to complete because the machine is slow. She also gave me her printer and some horrendous battery charging thing (an ancient UPS) which I will just get rid of somehow. I've no idea if the printer works, but I have to assume I'd need to buy ink to find out. I got home about 5PM, but as I was travelling home I caught a pretty sweet sunset. They can be rare this time of year, but I stopped off in the local park and took a few pictures. Very good timing for a very nice sunset. Maybe it was my reward for helping Lee with her technology.
Dinner was a hamburger casserole made from leftover hamburger. After dinner, I started researching what to do with a 2014 Mac Mini, and the answers were all much the same. I think, for learning purposes, I am going to set it up as a headless server and see how that works. I am toying with putting Linux on in a dual boot configuration, but I don't think for now I will do that, saving the disk space (500GB) for storage. Let's see how it works as a standalone first. I was going to spend the evening watching more cricket, but I could not resist the lure of the new computer, and decided instead to set it up and let it do some updating so I could get to it today. Bedtime 11:25 PM.
