Hey There! It's 9:17 AM EDT, 49°F, overcast
Yesterday was a pretty lazy day. I think it was the first day since returning from AZ that I completed my morning routine in full. Brewed coffee, read the news. No walk, alas, as the wind was really strong and I never got around to doing it later in the day.
I was faced in the morning with a dilemma - my miniPC loaded with Windoze and Zorin OS was refusing to print. I was working on the Zorin side, and try as I might, I could not get Zorin OS to print to my Epson printer. It was working before I left, and I updated everything once I got back, so it's the latest version of Zorin. I tried installing Linux drivers from the Epson printer site to no avail. It seems to see two Epson printers, and every time I try to delete the "local" version, it popped back up. Since my Linux Mint computers were able to print, I decided after an hour or so to swap the Zorin machine out from my downstairs office and replace it with the Mint Linux box, which also has a Windoze partition installed on it. That seems to be working OK, but now I am beginning to re-think my computer strategy.
I spent all winter traveling and using my MacBook Air M2, and it functioned perfectly for everything. I have too many computers here, and I have switched over to Linux because I have been wanting to avoid using any of the Big Tech hardware or software. But the MB Air just does everything so well for me, it's hard to dismiss. And I really don't want to be bothered with computer problems at this stage of the game - I just want things to work. Linux boxes and laptops don't play well with webcams, for example, and that means I really can't rely on them for Zoom interviews or video calls. I like using Linux for unimportant browsing, but not for getting work done. So I have to re-think my strategy. I'm not all that thrilled about it.
I did some casual browsing in the afternoon, and discovered a new site called Sourcefeed. News feeds and RSS feeds are now the way I want to consume my news and blogs, and Sourcefeed was created by software designer Terry Godier. He designed an RSS reader called Current, but unfortunately it's only for Mac products (no web, Windoze, Andriod or Linux version). I've tried it out, and it seems fine, with a nice UI. But I want "one RSS to rule them all" so I can have my feeds available anywhere.
Getting back to Sourcefeed, it's a "popup" RSS reader that is available only via RSS; no website or domain attached. You create just the RSS link and make it available however you can. I find it intriguing, and I've created a Sourcefeed that, for the time being, will mirror this blog. Posts here will also appear on my Sourcefeed link. I think it's interesting, and after some experimentation it may be that I will make this blog disappear and use Sourcefeed directly. I'm not there yet, but the signs seems to point in that direction. I also can see a lot more uses for Sourcefeed as a place for creating other feeds for other purposes. It should be fun to experiment.
DW made some chicken goulash for dinner, and then as usual I took in a baseball game for the evening. The 9th inning was tense, but we pulled through. Bedtime was 11:15 after cleaning up the kitchen.
