Writing has been getting away from me in the morning because for the past two days I've had medical appointments early in the day, and I am now in the habit of writing at that time of day. Today was the ophthalmologist, and my eyes were dilated, so I couldn't see straight for half the day anyway. Hopefully tomorrow I can return to my morning schedule.
Yesterday ended up being a wild day. I had a 9:30 AM doctor's appointment, and his building is about a 25-minute ride. I also had an appointment at 10 AM to bring a car in for an oil change. My plan was to start one car, have DW drive along with me while I brought in the car needing the oil change, drive back to the house and drop her off, and then head to my doctor appointment. Well, the intended transport car did not start. I was actually afraid of this, as it hasn't been started for some time and it's been cold. The battery was drained. All my initial attempts to start the car failed, and I did not have a set of jumper cables anywhere in the house. So I re-scheduled the oil change for later in the day and just drove to the doctors.
The weather turned wintry, and by the time I got to the doctor's it was snowing at a fair clip. I had my checkup (all good!), and then went to a local coffee cafe which is a favorite of mine for a breakfast sandwich and coffee. On the way out of town I stopped to buy a set of jumper cables.
As I was driving home on the local state highway, the wind blew down a tree which landed across the road. I saw it falling, and I managed to stop about 50 yards from where it fell. Luckily I was able to drive around the tree on the right shoulder of the road. Fortunate timing. The winds were blowing up to 60 MPH.
When I got back home I took a few hours to chill, have more coffee, and then set out to try and start the other car. I had a fully charged battery taken from the motor home, so I hooked the jumper cables to it and the car and tried to crank it. Nothing. Last resort - I called AAA. They came and started the car. From there DW and I managed to get the other car over to have the oil change. We did not shut down the non-starter until we had both cars home. Hopefully that has charged up the battery. I should start the car today, really.
We had leftover swordfish steak served in pasta and a pseudo clam sauce, along with a salad for dinner. Then I did a tiny bit more research for Japan, and settled in to watch more of the Ashes. Travis Head scored a century, and then I went to bed at 11:15 PM. The end of a particularly hectic day.
I think that's about it, and it's enough for this old man. If I think of anything I forgot it will be in tomorrow's post.
