Yesterday seems to have been a particularly fruitful day. I seem to have gotten a lot accomplished, and yet, it doesn't feel at all like I did anything. I slept pretty well last night too, not getting up to pee until 6:45 AM. Uninterrupted sleep like that is unusual these days.
The first thing I tackled yesterday was changing insurance companies for two cars. Both my sons drive cars titled under my name, but I think in the coming year I am going to have to change that up. We did it to help them get better insurance rates, but I think it might be better to have them insured with Progressive or Geico rather than State Farm. They can get low rates from them, and then I won't have to worry about the cars.
Both DW and I were floored at the difference in rates between Progressive and State Farm. Basically, we can insure two cars with Progressive for the price of one car with State Farm. You would think SF would give significant discounts to long-standing customers, but when I talked to my local agent, nothing could be done. So goodbye, SF; hello Progressive.
Then after lunch, DW and I set our trip to Olympia WA in late March-early April to visit Daughter. We looked over a lot of AirBnBs, and settled on the same one we had last year, as nothing was much cheaper or more convenient. I am traveling to Japan over that time period, so DW and Daughter will have some quality time together. I think we now have our western swing settled for the winter.
Then I went upstairs for a computer project. I found a stick PC sitting in one of my computer junk drawers, and I thought "Why not put Linux on this?" So I spent the rest of the afternoon and a little of the evening doing just that. It worked perfectly, and the stick PC now has Mint Linux/XFCE. But when I was done, I thought maybe, given the size of the PC and its specs, I should try a lighter install. So I spent the rest of the evening looking up lighter Linux distros, and it looks like today I will be installing Xubuntu. Lubuntu was another option, but I like the XFCE UI, so I am thinking of using Xubuntu for that purpose.
I'll be taking a break to work with my senior tech student this afternoon as well. She's coming along fine, but I have to do some research on cell signal booster. She has a big problem with cell phone reception, and a booster may be a short-term solution.
