Hey There! It's 7:54 AM EDT, 43°F, clear, winds S 2MPH

Yesterday was a pretty well-paced day with some things to do, but not so many as to wear me out. I'm beginning to write these posts first thing in the morning now, even before taking in the headlines, because I think it's more pleasant to write these with a cup of coffee and maybe a muffin in hand to get me going. The headlines can wait.

I noticed first thing that my podcast did not go out at the time I thought I had scheduled it to go out. So I had to look into that, and discovered that I had not changed the time zone since my last release. The web site thought I still wanted Mountain time. You have to set the time zone manually, so I went in and re-set the time zone for EDT, and a half hour later. That worked, so I should be set for the future. I also set up my scheduled "thank you" emails to my guests containing the link to the episode. Then I also sent out emails to guests I would like to have for my upcoming episode, which will be the last of the season.

Once I got all that done, I took a shower, got dressed, and prepared for my meeting with my podcast boss. Personally, I would like to drop the podcast altogether, and I told him so at the beginning of this season (fall 2025). He's been doing some legwork trying to find a replacement, but he hasn't found anyone, and truth to tell, there's probably no one out there in this rural region with the skills, knowledge, or interest to simply take over. I've made myself indispensable. I knew in the back of my head I wasn't ever going to get out of it unless I was insistent.

So he had been doing something, and had found maybe one or two people to become contributors. Long story short, we decided that, with a change in the format a bit, and with some people doing one or two interviews instead of me doing them all, I could become the "coordinator" of a team of people contributing to the podcast. So I am staying on for a bit longer, with the hope that maybe someone might eventually take it over. Not truly what I wanted, but it's probably the best I could have hoped for without simply walking away completely and leaving the place in the lurch. Indispensability has its downsides.

When I got home, I set to work making a video tip for Son2's website. This is going to be harder than I thought, It's not the technical aspect of it, but rather my lousy work in front of a camera. I don't really want to memorize these little scripts, and I don't want to improvise either, as my thoughts come out too slowly. It took maybe two dozen takes to get one right. I uploaded it to the website and am waiting for Son2 to look at it and tell me what works and what doesn't. I think he got too busy watching basketball last night.

I took a nap at that point, a short one. When I woke up I began screwing around with Sourcefeed again, trying to understand how it works better. DW put together something of a pork casserole for dinner with some leftover pork loin. She's been on a roll lately with one-pot dinners because I like them.

Then I parked my butt on the couch and turned on the ball game. Baseball has become the background while I mess around with other things like Sourcefeed. It seems I am losing the ability simply to sit and watch a game without something else to occupy the dead time. I pick up the phone or the laptop and tinker around with them as the game progresses. Last night was a losing effort, but in the meantime I kept exploring the possibilities. When I went to bed, I think I came to the realization that I am asking the software to do too much, and that it intentionally wants to do less. I'll need to find the limit and then stop asking it to do things it's not intended to do. Bedtime was 11:14 PM.

Notable deaths: George Herms, eccentric collage artist from the Beat generation, 90.
