Yesterday was another calm day. I've been choosing not to do much physically to make sure I have the energy to get through the coming weekend, so it's been a little dull around here.
After my morning routine and some breakfast, I thought I would spend some time making a dent in the mess that is the upstairs office. There are computer parts all over the place in that room, with the bed being a dumping ground for cords, old computers, and what not. I set up one of my Linux/Windoze boxes on top of the old Mac Mini I have running in the room. I've always wanted to be able to set up a server, and I made another half-hearted attempt to do so. But I lost interest fast. I also did a half-assed job of cleaning up. The desktop is still cluttered with an assortment of adapters and thumb drives. I'm just running out of space for everything.
I also considered buying a Lenovo T4 to set up as a Linux laptop, but finally came to the conclusion that it was unnecessary. I'm writing this on a converted MacBook Air 2017 running Mint Linux, and I really have no other need for another Linux laptop. My production laptop is an M2 MacBook Air, and while my aim is to rid myself of Big Tech, the M2 is such a good and elegant machine that not using it seems to be silly. All that thinking saved me about $350.
I did a lot of uninteresting futzing around until about 3 PM, when DW and I left to run some errands. First we stopped off at a colleague's home to buy tickets for the Habitat for Humanity chicken dinner fundraiser coming up in a week or so. He volunteers for them. He's very handy with tools, and I am sometimes surprised at how much he keeps doing despite his age. His house is surrounded by flora and fauna, as he is a Master Gardner. We chatted a bit, then DW and I headed to the grocery store to pick up our groceries. We order online and then drive to pick them up, which I must say beats shopping in the store. Lastly, we went to our community garden site and picked up the week's vegetables. I don't think we will be doing this next year, as the value proposition doesn't seem to be there. We're better off buying their veggies at the local Farmers Market where they sell produce individually. Any more Swiss Chard and I think I may choke.
DW has been quite busy preparing for my brother's visit. He will be here tomorrow, and so we have the menu and everything all prepped and ready to go. But I had to run to another store to get another package of chicken thighs as well as some basmati rice. I also ended up having to make a blueberry run, as DW heard from a local women who sells blueberries from a roadside stand. So I hope we're set.
Dinner was a piece of salmon with potatoes and a salad. After dinner I decided to listen to the ball game on the radio instead of watching it. We won a squeaker. I did a load of wash, I watched a Sidetrack Adventure video, a couple of other solar power videos, and eventually went to bed at 10:57 PM.
