Hey There! It's 7:27 AM EDT, 79°F, Humidity 67%, Wind 12 mph SW, sunny
The heat goes on. This morning DW goes in for cardioversion #2. A long day of waiting ahead.
Yesterday was another day of life and errands. I did not have a morning routine as such yesterday because I had a doctor's appointment at 10:30 in the morning, so I got up, got cleaned up, and did my morning routine sans coffee. I was expecting to have blood drawn, so I was fasting for that. I had to have all my stuff together early because I was going to stay in town until my project meeting in the early afternoon.
The visit was my annual Medicare wellness check, so I had to go through all the routines and questions surrounding that: remember three words, draw a clockface at 1:30, and answer the various questions that check for senior abuse. I also had an EKG, and indeed blood was drawn.
My doctor is someone I've been going to ever since I arrived here, so about 38 years. He always comes in quoting Shakespeare. We chat, he talks about his latest medical escapade (this time he fell through a floor while remodeling a bathroom). We chat about DW's upcoming cardioversion. It's as much a social visit as it is a doctor's visit. He schedules me for a colonoscopy (colon cancer runs in my family). He's 81 years old, I believe, but looks 65. Every time I ask the question of who's going to take care of me when he retires, he smiles and says, "Don't worry, I'll take care of you." He might outlive me. His daughter also practices medicine in the region. I always enjoy going to visit him. He's the one through all the years that finally got me walking consistently. I miss my morning walks at the moment.
After my visit, I went to the local coffee shop for breakfast - a bacon, egg and cheese sandwich on a bagel, and coffee. I spent about an hour there eating and catching up with news. It was too hot to be anywhere else. Once I had finished breakfast, I went over to the donut shop and got a Canadian Maple donut. Then I went back to the car, went over to the EV charger, got a full charge, and went to my afternoon session.
I won't spend time repeating how bad things went. Same old story. This, too, shall pass.
I got home around 5PM, and decided to fill in my quarterly reports from my retirement funds. I made a stupid amount of passive income this past quarter, almost 2.5x as much as I spend from the funds in a year. I do not much like being in the market at the moment, and my portfolio is split 55% equity/45% bonds, so if I had been more aggressive there'd be more cash there. But I do not trust this market at all. I think it's heading for a day of reckoning at some point like the housing and dotcom bubbles. So I stay conservative. There's enough there for us to live well, and however much more it may make, that's for the kids.
Dinner was sausage, peppers and onions in a tomato sauce made in the crock pot. DW and I agreed the sausage turned out a bit mealy in the crock pot, with no crunch. We also had salads on the side. Then I went in to see the condensed version of the baseball game that was played in the afternoon. Seventh loss in a row. Yikes.
I was feeling a little sore, tired, and achy in the evening, so I just went right to some YouTube videos to pass the time. One Sidetrack Adventures, I rolled through three Woodzman videos, a Will Prowse video, and a couple of "where to retire abroad" videos. I do have a fascination with retiring somewhere abroad, but I'm not really planning on doing it. It's too far away from the children, and honestly, as long as I can drown out the noise of life in the US, I don't think I can live any much cheaper than where I am. The hoops one has to jump through to live abroad as far as visas are concerned and all that make it more of a hassle than it's worth. I watch for entertainment and knowledge, but I think if I ever did such a thing, I'd spend a year somewhere, or 6 months, and not try to take up residence. I'm OK where I am and with what I have.
After cleaning the kitchen, bedtime was 11:30 PM.
