Today is the first day we have woken up to temperatures in the 60s. The warmth is a welcome change from the relatively chilly weather we've been experiencing. But hey - it's not below freezing and snowing!
Yesterday after the morning ritual DW and I headed out to meet the guy I will be traveling to Japan with. We went to a botanical garden, which had a desert theme and an exhibit of Frida Kahlo's work and life connected with it. Seems like I am getting a lot of Frida in my life lately. It was a nice visit, and he will be an excellent travel companion as we fly to Tokyo. We strolled around the grounds, had lunch in the café on the grounds, and drove back home, taking the scenic route.
It's funny how your environment can lead you to make assumptions. Because we were going to an arboretum, I assumed it was indoors. In the winter, arboretums are all in greenhouses in the east, and even in summer, many are in buildings to make maintenance easier. This one was completely outdoors with nothing but desert flora and fauna, and so I forgot to bring my hat and any water into the arboretum. It was a very warm day, lots of sun, and I found myself constantly seeking shade to keep the sun from baking my head.
There was also a nice exhibit of tropical butterflies, and when you entered, the butterflies all flew about you. I got some pictures and a 10-second video of one fluttering its wings. Really fun!
We had dinner at home, some leftover Tuscan soup from the freezer. I watched a couple more Sidetrack videos (a new one yesterday), and then listened to a few podcasts, but not complete episodes. I had a bit of trouble finding one that held my interest. I think I've listened to enough podcasts on AI lately. Bedtime was 11:00.
