Hey There!
It's 7:32 AM EDT, 63°F, Humidity 73%, Wind 6 mph NE, mostly cloudy, AQI 41
It's a cool morning, and you can feel the first hints of fall in the air. Today we'll be on the road heading for the first stop on our trip to Springfield IL for a weekend of Women's Pro Baseball League games. It's a birthday celebration for Daughter, who enjoys baseball, and is overjoyed to see a women's pro league. We'll be there until Tuesday, when we return home.
Yesterday wasn't much to speak about. It seems preparing for trips always causes no little anxiety, mostly because I feel I will always forget something. After my morning routine, I began the process of final packing. I'm taking the opportunity to try out two new personal item bags to see which one I like better. Both are about 30 litres, and are good for maybe a weekend trip or so. I have the Osprey packed, and am taking the empty TomToc to use on the way back. I've also put together a tech pouch and an EDC pouch. They are both probably overpacked with gear, but we shall see. After this trip I might be able to take a few things out.
After getting just about everything packed, I went out and got a BBQ hot dog from my local burger shack, along with fries and a drink. Usually I just get the hot dog. It seemed to take a long time to prepare the meal. The place was staffed by three teenagers, and while they're probably good kids, they are not the most attentive to their work. There were no salt packs available, and the garbage pail was very full. It's probably just me being critical of kids today.
Then I went to the local corn stand for 6 ears of corn @ $4. When I brought it home, DW and I husked it, vacuum-packed it, and put them in the freezer. We will see if they stay fresh.
I checked out directions for the trip on Google Maps and sent them to my phone. We also checked out the bag policy at the stadium. One thing we truly need to get is a clear stadium bag. I actually looked for one on line at the local Wal-Mart, but according to the web site there were none to be had. I think back to school shopping is eating them up. So we will make do. I found a new Youtube car site that seems to cater to seniors on how to buy a car, so I watched a few of those videos. Direct and straightforward.
Dinner was a plate of vegetable dishes made from things DW wanted to get rid of: roast broccoli, green beans, sweet corn, and fried zucchini fritters. It wasn't a pleasant dinner by any means, but I ate what was there. When someone makes you dinner most every night, you never complain. You eat.
After dinner I watched the ball game, which we won, and while I was watching it, I continued investigating more blogs. Apart from this blog, I have a public-facing blog, but I have begun to wonder about the nature and purpose of blogging. This blog I think is OK because it's nothing but a simple journal of activities. I think my main critique of blogs is largely centered around the illusion that blogs "bring us together and connect us." I think that's a comforting illusion. But it seems to be the clearest concept out there concerning reasons to blog. I have to continue my investigation.
I did write a public post about it while watching the game. After the game I continues down the rabbit hole, and I came across the Wayback Machine. I was aware of its existence, but I never thought to use it. I did last night, and I found some blog entries from when I first started writing in 2009 or so. Now that I know it's there, it may become a project to download and re-create some of those posts. I am sure it will be discouraging to discover how bad my early writing was (not that this is any better, mind you).
I forced myself to close the computer, clean the kitchen, and go to bed at 11:15 PM. After all, I have some driving to do today. Right after I get my teeth cleaned.
That's all for now. 'Til We Meet Again!
