Hey There! It's 7:36 AM MST, 64°F, sunny
Yesterday was spring training day! Not bad. I was not able to enjoy my morning coffee ritual as usual, as DW did not pack the filters into the coffee bag. So I had to do a little improvising to make some coffee. It didn't turn out too well, but good enough I guess you could say. We are still visiting, and our hosts do not drink coffee. Just tea of some sort.
I did have a relatively OK time sitting outside taking in the morning air. It's a little warmer here than in our place in SV. I had a little breakfast of yogurt and granola. While this retirement park they live in is pretty snazzy in some aspects, it doesn't have options in terms of food. A small café would be nice here.
We chatted away the morning, and then at 11:30 we went over to their community building to have lunch. It was a fundraiser for the softball teams (they have 4) and it was a hamburger with swiss cheese, grilled onions, baked beans, and macaroni salad. The hamburger was good sized and well cooked.
After lunch, I and the host wife took off for the ballgame. DW did not get tickets due to the heat, and host husband isn't really into baseball at all. The game was the Giants v. Athletics, and by the second inning the Giants were leading 6-0 on the strength of a grand slam. The As didn't come back at all, and on the whole the game was not spectacular. But it's always nice to be in a ballpark. Final score: Giants 8, Athletics 2.
We came home, and the heat plus the driving on Friday much have worn me down, as I took a short nap. Dinner was chicken breasts with squash and potatoes. I didn't eat much because I had a hot dog at the ballpark, and while it didn't fill me up, it was still a little too soon to eat for me.
After dinner we got a golf cart tour of their park. It's quite expansive, with I believe over 1700 trailers in it. They have almost every kind of activity you can think of. 2 pools, a pool room, pickle ball (of course), tennis, putting green, horseshoes, bocci, etc. etc. There are arts and crafts buildings as well, from silver smithing to glass art. One thing I have to admit is that, if you are someone seeking activity in old age, this is the place. You won't be lacking for company or activity here.
We also saw a pretty spectacular sunset as well, with a deep orange color in the sky. The palm trees dotted the landscape, and you were watching the sunset through the palms. I've been looking for places to see a sunset, and the flatness of this region did the job last night.
The evening was spent catching up with the hosts' children and grandchildren. It was essentially a slide show. I must admit I was not terribly entertained, but DW showed an interest in all the kids, asking how it felt to see your childern become parents. We will never be grandparents, and while DW says that's OK, I think somewhere there lingers a desire to have grandchildren. We got to bed just a little earlier last night, around 10:45 PM.
