Hey There! It's 8:38 AM EDT, 76°F, Humidity 84%, Wind 2 mph N, overcast

Yesterday started off with some personal fireworks. I was awakened at about 6:00 AM by the sound of a dull thud. I discovered that DW had fallen off the bed and was lying on the floor. She was unhurt, but she could not raise herself up off the floor.

The next 30 minutes were spent trying to get her up off the floor. After a couple of failed attempts, we decided to head to the bathroom and use the commode, then tub edge, and the grab handle, to see if we could get her up. Fortunately, a combination of me lifting and supporting and her grabbing said items and getting her feet under herself did the trick. She was simultaneously happy to be upright, angry that she had fallen, and distraught that she was unable to get herself upright. After an emotional few minutes, we both went back to bed, where I got about another hour of sleep before coming downstairs.

I think the event colored the rest of the day, as I never quite felt with it all day, and also probably strained some back muscles while trying to lift her up. I just felt out of sorts, and to be very honest it forced me to think about the reality that leaving her alone is always risky. Fortunately her heart retained rhythm.

The day itself was pleasant enough because the heat dome here has broken. After going through my morning routine I went about preparing my podcast for Wednesday. It's a mini-episode, so it was not terribly complicated, but it did take me into the middle of the afternoon. I took a break to tune in to the ballgame, which we lost due to extremely poor pitching, I got the podcast into the can just before dinner, having enough time to take in a video on rack-mounted batteries and a new DC refrigerator.

I grilled up a couple of pork chops, which were absolutely delicious, and also a few skewers of veggies. DW did up a large sweet potato, and that was dinner. Very delicious.

After dinner, we looked over a couple of lift chairs designed to lift people who had fallen off the floor. DW had texted my aunt who told her my cousin's husband had fallen a few times, and they now have a lift chair. After some research and discussion, we decided on a moderately expensive lift chair with arms, wheels, and a high weight capacity. We bought it in the hopes it future-proofs us and we won't have to upgrade later. It's one of those things you buy you hope never to use, but given DW has fallen twice now (one she didn't tell me about), it's a safety priority.

The local fireworks started at 9:30, and we took a couple of chairs out on the porch to watch them. Luckily we get a decent view of them from our own front porch, so no need to go down with the crowd. Not a perfect view, but good enough for two people who have seen enough fireworks in their day. after we came back inside, I spent the remainder of my time going down a rabbit hole of tap and shag dance routines, which is a sort of secret passion. Because I forgot to put in my eye medication while we were looking at chair lifts, I had to do so just before bed, so bedtime was 11:30 PM. Some day.

'Til We Meet Again!
