Hey There!
It's 8:31 AM EDT, 67°F, Humidity 74%, Wind 9 mph N, hazy sunshine, AQI 71 (moderate)
Yesterday was a day where I tried to forget about the project completely. I needed both the physical and psychological release. The weather was also a bit uncooperative, as the AQI shot up again to high levels, so all I did was sit. And sit. And sit some more. And I just let the time pass until eventually it was time to go to bed.
I went through my morning routine, having coffee and a muffin and reading through my assortment of blogs and news sites. Then I took the time to watch Friday's condensed version of the ballgame - we start out with a loss. I did some mindless shopping, checking on prices for things I shouldn't buy. I did not buy anything, but I was very tempted by a portable coffee maker that could handle K-cups and ground coffee. It's output was only 4 oz., however, so it certainly wasn't worth the money for the convenience.
I watched a couple of long backpacking videos, one from a Canadian backpacker and one from an Australian. They were somewhat gear related, but I just marveled at the scenery they were hiking through.
Then I decided to switch my phone back to a minimal launcher. I had gone back to the Pixel launcher when I was in Japan, figuring it would be easier and faster to access necessary apps, and I think it was. But I hate the clutter of all those icons, so I went back to OLauncher. I also looked into a couple of others, and I may try one more out. But I am satisfied with OLauncher, and I like the look of the text-only home screen.
I'm still tempted to buy a 2020 Intel Macbook Air, so I did some spec research. Logically, there's no reason to buy it. My tech needs are simple and getting simpler. The 2020 MB Air only offers more speed, which I don't need, but it also offers the Retina display, which might be nice. I would put Linux on it and make it my new couch laptop, but I just can't bring myself to justify the need. If I buy it, it will be an emotional rather than a logical purchase. Perhaps if I just junk all my other machines so it doesn't feel like an addition to all the other computer clutter, I might do it.
Then I started looking at the Pika blogging site. I am tempted to move this blog over to that site, as for $60/year it offers a more aesthetically pleasing design. Is it worth $60 just to have a prettier site? I am not after more readers, and the bare bones approach of Materoa is really simplicity at its best. I will be considering this in the days to come. I also found another interesting blog to read while looking at their website samples, and I added her to my feed. She seems to have a no-nonsense approach to life, something I value.
Dinner was a beef mushroom casserole, a great meal. I had a nice helping of that, maybe a little more than I should have. I had anticipated watching the ball game, but it was postpones due to weather conditions. So i spent the better part of the evening watching videos from a YouTube site called Aeon. Aeon is a website that offers intriguing videos about philosophy and the humanities. The work there is always highly thought-provoking and interesting. I have never really paid much attention to their YouTube site, but last night I dove in a bit. I watched three videos on people who "reset" their lives. One was about a man who had three different identities and was completely off-grid. A second was about a woman who spent a year on an uninhabited island. A third was about a man who faked his death in his early thirties, developed a new identity in an Alabama backwater town, and was accidentally discovered by a state trooper who stopped him because a tail light was out. Then there was another about a shepherd in the high Pyrenees in France. And I also watched a video about people who video trucks idling their engines in New York City, which is against the law. They send the videos in to an enforcement site and receive 20% of the fine. All were very interesting.
I ended the day by looking at my rotisserie baseball team, which needed no changes. Apparently MLB iPads are being used by some teams for AI-enhanced analytics, and MLB is cracking down on that. Another human pursuit about to be spoiled by AI. I cleaned up the kitchen and went to bed at 11:08 PM.
'Til We Meet Again!
