Hey There! It's 8:08 AM MST, 48°F, sunny
Yesterday I would put into the category of ordinary; nothing spectacular, just some activities to make the day trot along.
After my morning ritual, I had an early interview with someone for my podcast. He's not only a jazz pianist, he's also the head of the Common Council for my city. I talked to him only about jazz events coming up, but he did take just a few moments to bemoan the current situation in the city. I felt sorry for him, because he goes from hanging around many excellent jazz players and students to hanging around with the narrow-minded citizens of the region. That's a man caught between a rock and a hard place.
After the interview, I took up the task of getting my new GPS mount onto the Honda. It was, in theory, a simple task, but it had its challenges for me. I had to turn the mounting plate 90° to get the mount set in the right orientation, and then the clamp had to be installed, which was a bit tricky because I had to catch a thread with a very short screw. And that was because I had to use the longer spacers because I either lost one of the short ones or I didn't get it. At any rate, I successfully completed the task, aided by a set of Allen keys I had in the spare wheel well of the car.
Then I decided to run a few errands. DW came along for the ride. I went to Home Depot to buy a pair of clear safety glasses and hopefully a few JIS screwdrivers. They didn't have the screwdrivers, but they did have a set of compact metric hex drivers, so I got those. I want to build a small tool roll to take with me when I ride. I ordered the screwdrivers from Amazon in the end.
Then it was off to the grocery store to buy some snacks for the Superbowl. I don't think I went overboard, and I bought enough snacks for the week or two, really. Doritos, cheese puffs (DW's favorite), popcorn, some ice cream sandwiches. I also bought a few necessities like cheese, mayonnaise, and one box of Keurig cups for the mornings when I run out of ground coffee. I was going to get the car washed, but the car wash I was thinking of didn't have a drive-thru bay, so I decided to leave that for another day.
I took DW to see a little home kitchen bakery I had found on Google Maps. The bakery had a little shed on the front lawn, and you can order on line and, I guess, pick up the product from the shed. Interesting arrangement.
When we got home we decided we wanted to eat out, so we chose a local Mexican restaurant. As we were about to leave, a collection of thunderstorms passed over the area. We had never seen rain here in the desert before, so it was both amazing and funny, because every time we elect to go someplace, it rains. The rain became hail for a little while. The food was average; we won't be going back again.
As we stepped out from the restaurant, the sky had turned a bright orange as the sun was setting. It was quite spectacular. It was still raining over to the east, and the orange glow was cast as a ring around the city. I took a few pictures and a movie for my front-facing blog. The sight ot the sun setting behind the clouds and the mountains was very, very cool.
The evening passed by in its usual way, with DW watching some of her TV shows and me watching various Youtube videos. I have now watched some channels for so long that I can see how they've degraded from being interesting channels offering personal DIY tips and information to being full-out commercialized channels basically pushing product. The enshittification of YouTube, basically. The one channel I've found lately that has seemed to maintain its independence is Sidetrack Adventures, featuring a guy from San Diego who goes out on little adventure trips and shows you very obscure, small sights and features from the area. No products, no hype, just a little local history and the almost raw video. He really does his research. I sent him a thank you and subscribed.
Super Bowl prediction - it's not so much a prediction as a wish. SEA 27, NE 21. I do not think either QB is solidly reliable. Sam Darnold has sucked on other teams, and Drake Maye is a rookie. I think the game will hinge on which QB has the better game.
Bedtime was 11 PM.
