Hey There! It's 8:42 AM MST, 46°F, partly cloudy
Yesterday was altogether a quiet day. I got up and went through my usual routine of coffee, headlines, and a walk. I've found a route that's consistently 1.75 miles and have been using that. I still feel I should get up to 2 miles. And I also feel I need to start packing the rucksack. But I haven't done either yet.
DW was going to make me a Valentine's Day breakfast, but after all the eating we did on Friday, we both decided to have a light breakfast instead. DW gave me a very nice Valentine's Day card. I didn't get anything. I think I am probably going to have get some token thing in the future, even if it's Lindor chocolates.
Then we settled in to get a few tasks done. DW began to clean the condo, while I pitched in my getting my bathroom clean. It doesn't take much because the place is relatively small.
Then we joined forces to plan the rest of our time away from home. Four weeks from today we will be on the road again, and that really is not much time in this age of planned travel. The first thing I did was put together a list of people I'd like to interview in the coming weeks. It's a long list, and it means I should try to shoot for 3 interviews a week. I'll be making email contacts a lot this week.
The next thing we both did was plan for the 10 days between leaving here and getting to our Daughter in Olympia. After much map consultation, checking of hotel and AirBnB prices, and figuring out distances and travel time, we settled on 2.5 days with my brother at his place, and I believe 4 nights in the Grand Canyon area. One of those days will be devoted to my live baseball fantasy draft day. We have two days to check out the Grand Canyon. Then from there it appears we have 4 days to get to Olympia, in which case we might take Rt. 395 going north on the east side of the Sierras. That part of the plan has not been planned yet, but needs to be locked down in the next few days.
Planning travel these is not easy and somewhat mentally taxing, so after that was over I kicked back and took a nap. I woke up about 4 PM or so. I think DW and I then watched a speed skating event featuring Jordan Schultz winning the gold in the event - maybe 1000M?
Dinner was pasta with meatballs and sausage and a side salad. I tried to eat as little as possible and finish all the salad. Two pretty heavy dinners in a row. DW has done all the calculating for the rest of the stay, and with everything we bought on Thursday from the store and the farmer's market, we shouldn't have to go shopping for anything except fresh veggies for the rest of the time we'll be here. We may have overdone it at the farmer's market.
After dinner we watched the movie Rushmore, a Wes Anderson film, one of his first, with Jason Schwartzmann and Bill Murray. I am a big Wes Anderson fan, and for some reason I had not seen this particular movie. So it was very enjoyable to watch it. Following the movie I tracked down a SideTrack Adventures video which is a 4-hour compilation of a trip across US 395. I watched a bit of it to get a flavor, but of course did not have 4 hours to watch the whole thing. I'll probably be watching it piecemeal over the next week or so. Bedtime was 11 PM.
'Til We Meet Again!
