Hey There!

It's 8:04 AM EDT, 71°F, Humidity 87%, Wind 1 mph SE, sunny, AQI 50

Today is one of my brothers' birthday. He's the second-youngest in line. I'm sure he'll treat himself to a boating excursion.

Yesterday I started off the day with my morning routine. I didn't take a walk because every moment I thought it was going to start raining, but it never dod. I have to be more decisive about that, I think. I find sometimes I make too many excuses for not walking. Yesterday was a bad excuse day.

I sat on the couch far too long yesterday morning, it seems. I started playing around with an old iPad Mini that belonged to my mother. I wanted to see if it was good for anything at all. it isn't - it's a first gen iPad and only goes to iOS 9.5.3. It's simply not equipped to handle anything internet-related, and can only handle mostly off-line tasks. So I'm not sure what to do with it or how to get rid of it. I tend to like old tech, but in this case not so much.

I also collected a box of shoes to bring down to the Salvation Army or similar store. DW keeps nagging me to discard old shoes, so I thought I'd make a start with what's doenstairs. I am giving away about half the shoes I had on the racks. It's a start.

I washed up and came back downstairs and set myself to some more videos. I watched a few on some Honda minimotos, and got curious about what they cost. So I went window shopping, and I found a local motorcycle shop that had a used Honda ADV for sale at $3K. I am wondering if they will take a trade-in for it. Even a little money back on a trade-in that I don't have to sell would get me to buy that ADV. It's a bike I've long drooled over. We'll see what the week brings. I'd love to at least get a look at it.

I had a leftover pork wrap sandwich for lunch, and eventually the ballgame came on. DW was watching the Women's Professional Baseball League game of the day, and while she was watching her game, one of the umpires passed out on the field from heat exhaustion. They had to call in another umpire to finish the game off. It was very hot in Springfield IL. I hope when we go it won't be that hot. DW does not like the heat.

My game was another win for the team. I'm sensing there may be a turnaround, but given how inconsistently they play, I can't be sure. I just take it one game at a time.

DW had made some chicken strips and another pork loin Friday while I was out playing poker, so we had the chicken strips and a cannilini bean salad with a knish for dinner. Sort of an odd combination of things, but really not too bad.

After dinner we watched the first episode of Ted Lasso. It was just OK. The episode basically got the gang back together to try and convince Ted to come back and coach the new women's team. Looks like he takes his family over as well. I liked the first season, but by the end of the third season I felt I'd had enough. This 4th season seems too forced already. We'll go along for a few more episodes and see where it goes.

The rest of the evening was spent down a very bad rabbit hole - backpacks and bags, I spent almost three hours looking at reviews of bags. It started out when I read an article about how your backpack got worse through private funding consolidation of brands, and which brands are still privately owned. I wanted to know which companies were on the "good list," and once I found a few, I was hooked. I like bags and backpacks, and trying to find the right bag has alway been a quest, one I don't really think I can solve. But I mean - three hours of video reviews looking at some really interesting bags and backpacks. Wow. That's a deep, deep rabbit hole. I'd love to purchase one, but I again am running up against that old need v. want conundrum. I don't need a new bag, but I want one for my next travel situation. But I don't travel too much as a rule - the trip to SV each winter is the most traveling I do. I was a little obsessed with finding the right bag for Japan, but I doubt I'll be doing a trip like that any time soon again. I don't know what it is about bags and backpacks, but I think it really calls to the wanderer in me. Pack a bag with everything you need, and hit the road. Watching bag/backpack videos speaks to that part of me.

I got so wrapped up in the videos I forgot to put in my eyedrops, so one went in, and I left the second set for this morning. Bedtime was 11:32 after cleaning the kitchen.

That's all for now. 'Til We Meet Again!
