Hey There!
It's 8:38 AM EDT, 75°F, Humidity 84%, Wind 5 mph S, rain, AQI 57. A Fllod Watch is in effect.
Yesterday was another lazy day during which I accomplished little. I think I may have reached the point where that doesn't matter much to me one way or the other. However, I'd hate to make it a habit.
The morning routine went as usual, although no walk. I'm still trying to get my new domain mapped to my public blog, with little success. I tried the steps I got from a chatbot, but nothing. I think I may just have to wait another 24 hours to see if it propagates. I'm a little frustrated, but not completely. I can wait - there's no rush for this.
I wrote a long comment on a baseball blog I follow. I rarely comment, but with the MLB trade deadline approaching I thought I'd throw in my two cents. I also read a post from my favorite motorcycle blog and wrote a comment there, but the comment section there is very tame. Older guys who ride slow motorcycles don't tend to write flaming hot takes.
Then I decided to look into AirBnB possibilities for the winter in SV. Might be tough and expensive. One place looked real nice but it was on a second floor. There are a couple of places left with average costs being about $2500/month. We may have to shorten our trip, or just spend the money. I would like to have something in hand by the end of August if possible.
I read up on Lughnasadh and sent Daughter, who is Wiccan, a happy Lughnasadh message. She appreciates getting these messages from me. I rather like the concept of celebrating seasonal changes myself. I can already sense the shortening of the days both in the morning and evening now. Once you're into August the change becomes noticeable.
The highlight of the day was meeting up with a fellow rotisserie owner from Big City, He was down in my city for a women's softball tournament with a team coached by his daughter. He had time for a beer before he had to assume his duties as scorekeeper, and I owed him a beer from a bet two years ago. So we went down to the local bar on the pier and sat by the lake and had a great time catching up on baseball and life and all that stuff. We chatted for about 90 minutes before I had to take him back. It's so nice to sit by the lake and chat and drink, but man am I a lightweight. One beer and I am done. Not like the old days.
Once I got him back to the softball fields I went to the store and bought ingredients for the evening's dinner. DW had made some beef stcok out of some beef bones that had been sitting in the freezer for some time, and pulling the meat off those bones gave us the main ingredient for burritos. In the meantime, I got the computer ready so we could watch the first Womens Professional Baseball Game in 70 years. Not having the ESPN app we had to watch it on Youtube, and for some reason I could not connect my laptop to the TV. So we ate dinner and settled in for the historic game.
While the game itself became fun to watch as LA came from behind to win, the field conditions were terrible. The women played in rain and wind that ordinarily would halt a ballgame, but in this case they played on. I think they really wanted the game to go the full seven innings come hell or - literally - high water. The conditions produced a massive defensive breakdown for the NY Heights, as they were one strike away from winning the game, but could not get the third out due to fly balls that became uncatchable in the wind and rain. The Los Angeles Queens won 10-8. To be honest, the calibre of play was hard to judge due to field conditions, but on the whole I think it will be some time before this league can present a level of play similar to other women's pro sports. We will be taking a trip in a few weeks to see some games live with Daughter as her birthday present. I look forward to seeing it live under good conditions.
The game ended about 10:40 PM, so I just cleaned up the kitchen and headed off for bed at 10:55 PM.
Notable Deaths: Vincent Pastore, who played "Big Pussy" on The Sopranos, 80.
That's all for now. 'Til We Meet Again!
