Hey There!

It's 9:15 AM EDT, 54°F, Humidity 76%, Wind 5 mph E, sunny

It looks like it's going to be a crisp, sunny autumn day, and I will be stuck inside the house getting some work done. Them's the breaks.

Yesterday was a perfectly awful day filled with intense family drama. It was the day scheduled for DW's sister to go to her new assisted living facility, and she resisted everyone with everything in her body and soul. If you can picture a 2-year-old screaming on the grocery store floor because she's not getting the bar of candy she wants, that was my SIL yesterday. Despite having signed all the papers and paid a month's rent and saying she was going to go, she spent the day in a complete state of emotional and psychological meltdown and denial.

We were not physically present, but both DW and I spent time trying to talk her down and get her to move to the facility. Her daughter, her grandchildren, the tenant downstairs - no one was able to calm her down. She accused everyone of elder abuse, told everyone how much she hated them, and on and on. By the end of the day she was finally in her new room, but when she got there she actually called the police, claiming her daughter was kidnapping her and abusing her. The police actually did come, but nothing came of it. DW must have spent half the day on the phone with her sister and niece as the process continued. Despite her ranting and raving, we are hoping that once she settles in and sees how nice everything is, she will grow used to it. Time will tell. But oh what an ugly day and ugly scenario. It really brought home to DW and I the realities of getting old and unable to care for yourself. Aging is not pretty.

All this took up so much psychic energy that I spent the better part of the day just being there, listening, offering moral support. The only chore I accomplished was taking my brush over to the city brushpile. I also spent some breaks in the action trying to map my blog to a new domain, which is giving me trouble. There are steps I am missing, but I don't know what they are, and it's all a matter of trial and error. But I did make some progress yesterday, so there is some light at the end of the tunnel.

I had leftover chili and rice for dinner before going to play poker at 6:30. I lost about $15 dollars or so, but it was a good time and a good break from the day's drama. When I got home, DW was on the phone with her niece, and after she hung up I got the rest of the details. Bottom line is that my SIL is in the facility, has her chair and a few things around her, and hopefully will settle in once she realizes how much assistance she is going to get. I spent the rest of the evening doing more experimenting with domain mapping, and went to bed at 11:00 PM. This was not a day I will long forget.

That's all for now. 'Til We Meet Again!
