Yesterday I kept myself busy with a few tasks that seemed more like accomplishing something. I finished my morning routine of coffee and headlines, and then, before I lost the motivation or the energy, vacuumed the downstairs. While not a perfect substitution, I decided the energy expended pushing the vacuum around was equivalent to a morning walk, so I didn't take one. In the midst of vacuuming, though, I got a call from Son1 who might be interested in taking the Kia and sending us back my Matrix. We talked about the issue, and he and his wife will talk it over over this weekend. While it may be a more expensive car to run, he does not drive so much, so it might just work out for him to have a bit of a nicer and newer (to him) car.
Once I finished the vacuuming, I then decided to try and do something with an old Mac Mini I inherited that's running Monterrey. I've mentioned in the past I don't need a server, but if this one does nothing but act as a server, then perhaps it's useful after all. I'm not 100% sold yet. I thought about turning it into another Linux box using Xubuntu, but I'd have to manually partition the disk, and I wasn't up to that yesterday. So right now I am trying to figure out how to turn it into a backup home server. There's a few details I don't have, but I decided to wait for another day to do that.
Then I went out for a range test ride in the EV. I wanted to see if it would make it from my town to the next town west, and back, doing 60mph. It just barely made it. At one point I thought I might not make it home, but my EV monitor on my phone said I would be OK. Round trip was about 38 miles. So I'm good, but in the future I may take back roads doing 45 and see what the difference is. I have time in abundance, and if it takes me 5 minutes longer using back roads but less battery power, that's the way to go. Or I can keep it at 55 instead of 60. More experimentation to be done. Push comes to shove, there is a charge station in the town, so if I can take even just 30 minutes and put an extra 10 miles in the tank, I'm good.
Arriving back home, I tried to solve a problem that's been bugging the Linux machines. I do not know the exact nature of the issue, but my APT sources seemed to continue to return a "corrupt" message. When I used the terminal to opdate my software cache, I noticed the program Vivaldi, a web browser/RSS program, kept being mentioned in the error message. So I deleted the program and its repositories, and I am hoping that will take care of the problem. So far, so good.
By then it was time to change into my ushering uniform, have a leftover chicken cutlet, and head to the performing arts center to usher an event. The event was OK, not as good as I was expecting. It just felt flat overall, and the vocalist wasn't too good. She seemed to be forcing an attempt at being sultry, and it didn't work for me. But I will say they ended on a high note, with a big band number featuring the drummer.
When I got home, Son2 and GF had arrived for a visit. I had a runza, which is a beef and cabbage hand pie and was on the menu for dinner, and joined the group. Son2 was watching basketball, so I turned on the baseball game on my phone. A bad loss. We chatted a bit, and everyone was in bed by 11:30 PM.
