Hey there! It's 1:18 PM MST, 80°F, sunny
Yesterday was something of a complicated day. As we prepare to leave SV, things keep swirling around us.
After morning ritual, I began packing. DW's afib continues to affect her, so she's trying to monitor her physical activity and pace herself. We're doing well, staying on or ahead of schedule. I got my electronics bag packed , my unused clothes packed, and my travel suitcase packed. I cleared out all the drawers in the back room, and I am pretty sure everything is out.
I brought my camping box to the car and put that in. It's something I don't think I will bring again. I've brought camping supplies out here for two years now and haven't camped once. So it seems pointless, and if we come out here next year I'll be a year older, and who knows in what kind of shape. And leaving DW alone overnight is never a good idea; she gets too nervous. And when we're here in the winter, it actually gets pretty cold at night - when the sun goes down at 6:00 it gets down to the low 40s fast. So there's nothing to do but hunker down in the tent; seems like a waste of time to be slightly uncomfortable. Then I rearranged the emergency box and put that back in the car. DW said it was better to wait until all the other boxes were ready, so I stopped there.
I have decided to check a bag through to Japan. I was stressing too much about trying to make the weight limit of 22 pounds for onboard luggage, and was precisely at that weight with no room for flexibility. So DW and I talked it through, and Daughter also weighed in, and the final verdict was to check a bag. It relieves a lot of stress. So now I am packing with an eye towards baggage check. I also will be using my wife's suitcase instead of mine, as it's a bit bigger.
By 4 PM I had accomplished enough for the day to stop packing. There are still two days left, so a good amount of time. I sat down to watch the WBC games. The Dominican Republic obliterated Korea, and the US got by Canada. Towards the end of the game the landlady and her husband dropped by to bring us some fresh sourdough bread, and they stayed for 45 minutes chatting. I'm not a big chatter, but it was harmless enough. They let us know the place will become available sometime late summer, so we may come back here, as the price is good and the place is OK. Not great, not fancy, but in a good location and fine for us.
Once they left I went back and listened to a Freakonomics podcast about scammers and scamming (very concerning), stupidly checked out FB Marketplace (like I'm buying anything!), and watched one video on 2x speed. Bedtime was 11:15.
'Til We Meet Again!
