Hey there! It’s 8:41 AM Eastern standard time, 21°F, overcast.
Yesterday was a day of several small accomplishments. As I was going through my morning routine, Son2 hit me up with a chat, letting me know that he was going to be on his local TV stations morning show with his band. He only gave me about a 20 minute heads up, so I gathered up DW and we tuned into his link on the computer to watch the performance. It was a lot of fun! He’s very outgoing, and he enjoyed chatting with the hosts. He plays drums for the band. As if he didn’t have enough to do.
After listening to that, I had to take a quick shower and then brush off all the snow on my car so I could meet a retired former colleague and help him deliver his podcast website. He has a website where he speaks to people who have about their experiences in our former institution. Sometimes it’s amazing to me how an educated person can know so little about finding his way around the web and the Internet. But I don’t really mind helping him out. He’s a good guy, and in the spring and summertime he’s my golf partner. Hopefully he’ll be able to work on his website while I’m gone.
After I got back home I went down to the basement and began once again to pack a camp box. I did manage to get one box packed with a minimum amount of stuff, which is a success. It’s not luxury, but it will do. I think this year I am going to bring my bike to places that I want to ride by hitching it up to the car and setting up a campsite somewhere nearby and then riding in that general area. That’s one step away from actual moto camping, but I think it will get me to ride more places and be a little more comfortable.
After I finished in the basement, I took a late afternoon nap. When I woke up, DW and I had a dinner of meat sauce and pasta. We are now at the point where we are trying to eat as much of the food we have in the refrigerator as we can, without going shopping anymore.
In the evening, after sending out links to Son2’s performance to family and friends, I spent the rest of the time looking at a YouTube site of a guy who rides his Honda CT 125 out in the desert by SV. He’s originally from Missouri and speaks with a southern accent. He always includes a Bible quote on the screen somewhere in his videos. I may look him up and ride with him a couple of times just to get more of a sense of the area with him. I also watched some more packing videos on how to pack lightly for Japan, but I think I’m burnt out by those videos. I may give them a rest until I get to Arizona.
It looks like the weather will be favorable for us getting out on the ninth. I may also have to turn to writing this blog in the evenings rather than in the mornings, as I’ll probably be busy in the morning, trying to get it together to get on the road. Once I get to Arizona, I will be back to riding in the mornings. So this site will be a mess for a bit. Hope you can put up with that.
