Woof - I slept in this morning! I have decided to include the temperature and weather as well as the time of day in the heading for a more accurate look at the conditions of the day.
Yesterday was another lazy-ish day. DW stripped the bed, and I took the sheets to the downstairs washer, which is a large load washer. I don't generally let DW go down the basement ever since she slipped and fell down the stairs onto her back and head on a concrete floor. I took a morning walk in the 20° cold, but the road was a bit dicey, so I altered the end of my walk somewhat to use the drier pavement. I listened to a very haunting CBC Ideas podcast about "going home" from three displaced people.
Breakfast was a slice of whole wheat toast with peanut butter, and a black cherry yogurt with some granola added. Then I spent time doing some research for my interview, and did the interview. It went OK, but the interviewee is a bit of a rambler.
I read something interesting in one of my newsletter. It was from a writer who had been a self-styled hobo for most of his life, but has now settled down, gotten married, and has a baby girl. He lives in a remote section of NY state. His writing is very engaging and deep. I decided to try his newsletter out, but he writes on Substack, a place where I won't subscribe. I read about three of his archived posts, and he is very interesting in the way he discusses modern life. It was a good find.
Then I decided to take an old Chromebook and remove Mint Linux and try Zorin OS on it. The mistake I made was not backing up the computer before doing the install. I think I lost a lot of pictures, but none of them were actually irreplaceable. In fact, about 90% of them I would have trashed anyway. I was under the assumption that, since I had chosen to create a dual-boot drive, I would retain the pictures. I came to find out that because it is a Chromebook, the specialized bootloader cannot handle dual booting or drive partitions. So the computer now only has Zorin on it. I've noticed a few issues already, such as the fact that now, when I shut the lid, rather than sleeping, the computer shuts down. That's a drag. The interface is nice. The reason I like this computer so much is the screen - it's fantastic. I will see how long I can put up with the small issues for the sake of the bright screen. Or I may just put Xubuntu on it for a more steady OS and try Zorin elsewhere.
Dinner was a pork chop with scalloped potatoes and homemade applesauce. I got to bed a little late due to exploring the new OS, but I did catch an episode of TaskMaster.
