Hey There! It's 8:36 AM EST, 22°F, sunny, with an expected high of 44°
Today is Son1's birthday! DW and I have developed a tradition of calling our children on their birthday and singing Happy Birthday to them. We'll be doing this today, sometime before noon.
Yesterday was a wild weather day. After my morning routine, I went out and ran three errands. I picked up a prescription for DW, I plopped all the Christmas correspondance into the mail, and I bought two battery posts to use to trickle charge the motor home battery over the winter while we're gone. I wanted to get all those things done before the truly nasty weather hit. It was bad enough as it was, with high winds and a snow/ice mixture falling from the sky. Once I had those errands done I knew I was home free to spend the rest of the day indoors. Which I did.
I brought the Mac Mini downstairs and set it up with an ethernet cord right by the router to act as a headless server. I can control it in the house via screen sharing in Mac OS, and it seems easy enough to reach with sftp as well. I also went and did some research about making it available over the internet. While it seems feasible and easy enough, I am a bit leery of exposing my network to the internet at large. I don't have a truly good reason to do that, so I am re-thinking the proposition. It has to be a strong enough reason to set that up, and I really don't have one. I'm doing nothing of any importance to anyone but myself, and as long as I have a backup drive with me, I should be good to go. So as tempting as it is from an achievement perspective, I think it's not truly worth the effort.
I'm pretty sure I spent the afternoon puttering about. I did spend some time chatting with Son2 about a small dilemma he felt he was in. He was overthinking it all. Nothing major. Lots of packages arrived, and DW spent her afternoon wrapping stuff up. For dinner she made herself a Monte Cristo sandwich and a salad, while I had leftover chicken Alfredo casserole. She also fried a potato. She has a habit of making too much food, as if still feeding a family of 5.
After dinner, I settled in to get the rest of the second test of the Ashes completed, and I did. Australia won by 8 wickets. There were some fireworks at the end between English bowler Jofra Archer and the Aussie captain Steve Smith. In baseball it would have ended up as Smith getting hit by a pitch and benches clearing. In cricket, there were a few words exchanged, and Smith won the battle by scoring a 4 and a 6 against Archer's next two deliveries. Australia now leads the series 2-nil. I do not know the rules well enough to know if Australia wins the next test match, the series is over, or if they are required to play all five test matches regardless. But if Australia wins the current test in Adelaide, they will have won 3 tests and thus the series, retaining the Ashes trophy. I'll find out soon enough.
The match ended with enough time to complete Series 16 of Taskmaster as well, so two TV series completed last night. Bedtime 11PM. I slept a little heavily last night, and feel somewhat groggy and stuffed up this morning. I hope I can get a little energy going today.
'Til We Meet Again!
