It's a pretty nice morning, and for once I am out on the porch enjoying the crisp morning air. DW did some baking yesterday so I have a muffin to go along with the coffee. I have some errands to do over the weekend, and hopefully I can relax before I go into three days of health procedures starting Monday.
Yesterday was a pretty easy day. I started the day with an abbreviated morning routine, getting out the door by 8:30 AM to deliver a check to Son2 for his house down payment fund. Money transfers just take too long in this country. I stayed about 7 minutes, turned around, and came home - a four-hour road trip. Not terrible. The day was nice, and while the driving can get frustrating at times with traffic and speeding/weaving drivers and trucks blocking lanes, it was still a calming drive. Sometimes I think when I get a bit anxious I should just drive somewhere. It has a calming effect on me.
When I got home, I went back to work on refurbishing computers. The drive I ordered came in yesterday, but I could see immediately it was too big. I decided not to bother to make the upgrade, although I must confess the temptation is strong to go on eBay and find the right eMMC. It would make the computer that much more useful to someone. But no, I'm gonna let it be. It's powerwashed and ready as is. Someone else can play with it.
Once I put everything back into place, I decided to stop there and leave the other two miniPCs for another day. I've made enough of a dent that I'll feel good getting rid of these for now.
I spent some time sending out emails to guests for my first full podcast of the fall. Hopefully I will get some responses back. My boss is one guest, and I have two more in the wings. I made the decision to leave the HP Stream travel laptop in the upstairs office and keep the 2017 MacBook Air/Linux as my couch cruiser, due partly to its better speed and the lighted keyboard. So each office will have a laptop and a miniPC box with Linux and Windoze, and my couch cruiser will stay where it is. The 2015 Mac Mini will stay in a back room, and I will try to set it up as a house server. If not, it will get wiped and sent to Goodwill.
For dinner I grilled a couple of chicken sausages, and we had those on toasted hoagie buns with mozzarella cheese, tomato sauce, peppers, and onions. Pretty tasty - a nice summer meal. We had a side salad as well.
Then it was off to the local performing arts center to usher a concert. The performed was a young man who had been on The Voice. I didn't care for his style or choice of songs - very pop-oriented. He plays the piano better than he sings. Long, draggy evening. I would have preferred to stay home and watch the ball game, which I will do after this post is done.
Got home around 10:15 or so and cleaned up the kitchen from dinner. At someone's suggestion I spent a few minutes looking for alternate places to donate my computers, but I have a feeling the donation centers will find my equipment either too old or their intended users can't use Linux. I'll check it out, but I suspect Goodwill can sell these easier and use the money for their programs. Bedtime was 11:20 PM.
