Hey There! It's 7:42 PM MDT, 49°F (Cheyenne WY), clear
Today we crossed the Rocky Mountains on I-80. It's been a lifetime since the last time I used I-80 to cross the Rockies, and I think in all honesty it's the easiest road to take. I-90 goes through the Montana section of the Rockies, and I-70 has some incredible canyons to traverse as you go past Vail and dive into Denver. I-80 is a more gradual route and avoids many curvy canyons. I-40 is too far south for the ride home from Washington.
I was rather surprised at how flat most of the terrain was. You really get up to about 65-6800 feet in elevation, and it might as well be a flat plain in the Midwest. The road seems to pick at the end, with elevations of 8700' or so, but the downhill seems gradual from here on in.
DW is not feeling well again with her diverticulitis, so we are back to a bland diet for her. Not sure why this happens when we travel, but I do find it's hard to eat well when on the road. Too much road food is junk, and too greasy. Last night we ate at a local burger shack in Brigham City UT and it may have been too much for her. She sleeps for most of the drive, falling asleep to her book. I don't mind because I am not a talker and I don't really need a lot of company when driving. I tuned in a ballgame and that kept me occupied for three hours.
Another 6-hour stretch of driving tomorrow, and then a day off on Monday. Getting close to completing this marathon of travel.
Notable deaths: Garrett Anderson, outstanding player for the LA Angels in the 90s, 53.
