Hey There!

Yesterday turned out to be a very mellow day. I knocked off a post for my public facing blog, answered a letter, listened to a ball game, watched some football, and went to bed. I think it did me a world of good to get that day's rest. I'm considering going out later today to pull a last batch of weeds, but I may not. Letting them die seems as good an option as any at this stage of the game.

I think I am going to start a new feature called "Notable Deaths." This is where I mention people who have died who, in some way, have had an influence in my cultural experience. In a lot of ways, when someone dies who, when you were younger, was an influence of some sort in your life, it feels like a touchstone, a marker, in the aging process. I don't know why, but somehow taking note of that seems important to me. So, since this blog is really not about anything at all, I thought I'd add the feature just as a way of marking the passage of time for myself. A "notable death" has to be personal to me, so for example: Davey Johnson, Mets player and manager, means something to me as a baseball fan, but Giorgio Armani does not, because I have no interest in fashion. So it's not a list of "who died," but rather "who died who had some relevance to my life."

Notable Deaths

  • Tom Shipley ("One Toke Over The Line", Brewer and Shipley)
  • Davey Johnson (Baseball Player and Manager; Baltimore Orioles, New York Mets)
