The stretch of nice weather continues. It will apparently get a little warm tomorrow, but other than that, quite nice. People will soon begin to complain about the lack of rain, I am sure.
Yesterday was another easy-going day. After the morning routine, I approached DW to see if she wanted to go and learn how to drive the EV. Surprisingly, she said yes. The car handles fine and drives like any other car, but it's a matter of knowing how to start the car and bring it to a stop. There are only two gear positions, drive and reverse, but you have to remember which position is which. She got the hang of it fast enough. She will still have range anxiety even when she's going 6-10 miles, and I can't really do anything about that other than to keep the charge as high as possible all the time.
We came back from her driving lesson, and proceeded to bring the RV up to the camp site for the season. It's all cleaned out and ready to go. We are on schedule for getting it there, but it feels late because Memorial Day came very early this year. I discovered my new neighbor mowed my fields, which is the condition for him using the pasture, so a good deal.
When we got back, I had a little bit of lunch (the leftover sausage mixture), and then went out to do some errands. I went to get DW's prescriptions, then I went to the local grocery chain to get my annual supply of beer - two 12-packs, one Summer Shandy and one Black&Tan. I was really bummed that neither choice came in cans. Maybe Sunday isn't the best shopping day for beer. I also picked up three boxes of Yasso frozen yogurt bars, which are delicious. They feel like a guit-free treat in the evening. I'm not sure they are, but that's how I am enjoying them.
I listened to the ballgame on the radio for a bit, and then, once I got the groceries in, put it on the TV. DW had some good news when I got home, and that was that her sister has finally given in and realized she needs to go to assisted living. It's a big step for her, and we hope she doesn't backtrack on it. I believe her daughter will be putting things in motion very soon to make that happen.
Thanks to a young man who has stumbled onto my public blog, I have begun looking into the "small web" as defined by Kagi, the search engine company. I also looked into Kagi itself. I very much like to pay for my web services, as I feel that when I pay I get far more privacy and no ads or trackers. I am now trying out their web browser Orion. It's more Safari-like. I also have Helium, which is Chromium-based, but has been un-Googled. We'll see which one I like better after a week or so. Anyway, after the game I chased some small web sites, and I have so far been intrigued by what I've discovered. I tried the search feature, and man, the results were so different. No sponsored sites, no ads, and information from sites that I haven't seen in a log time. I decided to add this blog as well as my public blog and one other blog to their extensive list of "small" blogs. I have no idea if I have done this right, because I had to create a Github account, and while I am familiar with Github, I know nothing about how it works. So in one day I created two accounts: one for Github and one for Kagi. I hope it's worth it.
Dinner was a very delicious meal of cod cooked in a lemon garlic sauce with potatoes and a side of broccoli. Excellent meal! After dinner I went back down the Kagi rabbit hole, finding a web site from a Canadian programmer fighting Bill C-22, to an art and design site which dealt with erotic and pinup art, including early pictures on Marilyn Monroe when she called herself Mona Monroe and was working as a model. I doubt I would ever have found these sites without the "small web" website. I also found unbiased review sites for outdoor gear that I remembered from long ago, like Section Hiker. It was actually a refreshing change to be reading more personal web sites and not looking at YouTube videos in the evening. I feel there's a lot more to learn here. I pulled myself out of the rabbit hole at 11:20 PM and went to bed.
