Hey There! It's 8:23 AM EDT, 75°F, Humidity 78%, Wind 3 mph S, partly cloudy
The heat wave is coming for us here. I can feel it sitting outside as I write this. The air is still, humid, and the temperature is already in the mid-70-s. DW is not going to like the next few days.
Yesterday was a day off from the project, and it actually felt like a Sunday. Days in retirement all seem the same, but yesterday had a distinct Sunday vibe.
After my morning routine and making some eggs and sausages for our breakfast, I headed up to my camp site to mow the lawn. I had to take the large tarp protecting the two trailers into the field to dry. It takes about two hours to mow the parts of the site I keep mowed. It was great that the portable fridge hooked up to the 200W solar panel was running fine and I had six cold bottles of water. Mowing presented no issues. However, to preserve energy, I did not run the hand mower. Next time.
When I was done I put the huge tarp into one of the trailers, giving up on the idea of protecting them. I searched for the 30A solar controller I bought last year, and found it in the RV, but decided against putting it together, as there was really no need to do so. I checked the RV battery and it was doing fine. So I closed everything up and headed home in the EV, which made the round trip with ease, starting with a full charge.
I stopped off at the local WalMart for some breakfast sandwiches and coffee, but ended up bringing home some whipped cream and rice pudding as well. Stores are overwhelming when you haven't been in one in a long time. But today it was somewhat empty. No cashiers, it seems, anymore - all self-serve checkout.
Despite the fact that I do nothing but sit on the mower, I still get sore from all the jostling around. I had a leftover chicken teriyaki sandwich for lunch, along with two Advil. I went into the living room to do some baseball research, but the urge for a nap hit me, and I succumbed. About 4:30 I awoke and returned to baseball, but also a little bit of mindless scrolling.
DW had bought a new window fan for the kitchen, and around 5:30 or so it arrived. Unfortunately, it does not fit; too large by an inch. We measured the wrong area, it appears. So I swapped my window fan in the back room for the new one. The old kitchen window fan's switches were really stuck and hard to maneuver, and it was getting difficult to change the settings. The new one now sits in our back room, while the old back room fan is now in the kitchen window. The old kitchen fan will go to the Salvation Army.
DW made burritos for dinner, but the salsa ended up being moldy, so before dinner I headed out to the store for some salsa and sour cream. Good burritos. Then I headed once again to the couch and took in the evening's baseball game, watching the team snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. We lost on 10 innings, having come back in the 9th. A pretty miserable defeat. After the game I cleaned up the kitchen and toddled off to bed around 11:02 PM.
'Til We Meet Again!
