Yesterday was mostly an easygoing day. Knowing that I had off from the project yesterday, I felt a little more at ease going through my morning routine. DW made a nice breakfast of pancakes and bacon.
I finalized some decisions on my replacement players and sent them in. I decided to buy a new Echo Dot to replace the old one in the living room so it has no camera. I also did a little research on whether or not it's feasible to charge the EV from solar. The answer is yes, it's feasible, but no, it's not worth the investment. The cheapest setup would cost at least $8K, twice what I paid for the car itself, so I think it's far more practical to use grid power. While the thought of energy independence is nice, it should have happened 30 years ago for me. At my age now, there will be no real return on investment for me.
All this casual research brought me to 1 PM, when DW and I went to a birthday party for the 85-year-old wife of the founder of the department I worked at. She's also the tech student I worked with over last fall, trying to help her manage her technology. DW and I, the host couple, and one other couple from back in the day attended. We had a nice dinner, really; it was more than a lunch. After that we made a video for a former colleague battling cancer, since it was her birthday as well. It was very pleasant sitting out there on the lawn chatting. The birthday girl wanted to go to the park to see the new Discovery Trail we had made the first week in June, but DW chose not to go, so we went home.
When I got home, I got caught up watching videos about Japan. I think I am harboring a desire to go back a second time. Now, when I watch videos on Japan, I see places I've been, which is kind of neat. I went to watch the condensed baseball game, but as I was watching, Daughter called up to wish me a happy Father's Day, so we chatted for 45 minutes. That's always a treat. She mentioned the far-off possibility of a job back here on the east coast, which would be nice. She doesn't much like her bosses, but she has a good situation in terms of salary and security, so naturally the parent in me says stick with it. But time will tell.
DW had no dinner plans, so I decided to go to the local burger shack (not a chain) and grab a double bacon cheeseburger, which I ate with a beer. That was probably a mistake healthwise, but it sure was tasty. I polished off the day with a couple of text messages from Sons 1 and 2, as well as some videos on riding the Trail 125. I'm hoping after the project is completed to get more riding in. Bedtime was 11;15 PM.
