Hey There! It's 10:30 PM CST, 44°F, mostly cloudy.
After 4 days of driving we find ourselves in Texas west of the Dallas-Fort Worth area. It's been a long 4 days, and tomorrow is our "break" day - no driving. DW has continued to struggle with her diverticulitis, and has been reduced to crackers, broth, and jello. I ate my first Whattaburger today - meh. It's a hamburger, and their shoestring fries are nondescript.
The scenery finally started to change today and look more western, as prickly pear cacti began to show up, as well as what look to be large ranches. Texas is a huge state to drive across, and by the time we get back on the road on Wednesday, we'll still be in Texas at the end of the day. I don't much care for Texas.
Watched the football game this evening to pass the time. DW listens to her books as we drive. We mostly stop at Loves when we can because we like their food choices. We've passed a couple of Buc-ees, but we stopped in one last year and didn't much care for it. Another example of gross American-style overconsumption and marketing. Never again.
The weather has been cooperative - not super-warm, but no snow or ice to deal with. The car has (knock wood) performed beautifully. So we're cruising along, making our way. It has occurred to me as we've been driving that this is maybe my 5th XC trip, and I think I've seen all I care to see of Interstate America. I would enjoy taking a trip on nothing but state and US highways at some point, but I also fear that long-distance driving is losing some of its charm and romance. I am already wondering if I would do this next year again just for two extra months of warmth and sun. We'll see.
'Til We Meet Again!
