I'm up a little early this morning. A combination of having to use the bathroom and just a general sense of having slept enough moved me to get out of bed. It feels like to house is just now coming up to morning temperature.
Yesterday was no great shakes as far as a day goes. I did manage to accomplish moving all my Linux setups around. I have Linux Mint XFCE on my Toshiba because it seems to be the only OS that doesn't break something on the computer. I have Linux Mint Cinnamon on the 2017 MacBook Air. Both these computers are on my couchside table. I have my MacOS M1 Air as well as my GMKtech 2-drive Windows/Linux machines in my back office. I have a mini-PC in the upstairs office/bedroom which has one drive split between Windows/Linux Mint Cinnamon. And I have a very old Dell Latitude with a 17" screen that also has Linux Mint Cinnamon. Two other computers with Linux are unused. Of course, I now have far too many computers, and how to deploy them is a bit of a challenge. But I think this is where I am in life right now: too many things I own that I don't deploy.
In between watching the regional football team play and win, I squeezed in a Christmas party at the local performance venue. I only spent about an hour there. I chatted with some people, listened to a thank-you speech from the ED, got a CD from a local composer who wants me to critique his work, and left. When I got home I began testing out my new set-ups. The Toshiba screen just can't be beat, with 332 nits of brightness. But it's old and a little slow (like me). The 2017 MacBook is faster, but the screen is duller. The Zorin OS is so much better than Ubuntu - I'm using that computer right now. I also installed a webcam on it, and remarkably, it worked. I have to do more testing to see if I can record Zoom sessions on it. I backed up the Ubuntu files, and probably today I will return them back to the computer's disk.
Dinner was cod and leftover scalloped potatoes, an easy dinner for DW. I watched a session of the Ashes, and have the evening session of Day 1 left. England is not playing the same all-out style it played in the first test, being more cautious in the crease. Then I watched a TaskMaster episode, and went to bed.
Today is podcast day, so by the end of the day I will have my last podcast for 2025 in the can. I wanted to end the podcast this year, but now am not so sure. It's a good project, and the small stipend I receive is play money. Maybe I can hack another year.
