Hey There!

It's 7:51 AM EDT, 65°F, Humidity 82%, Wind 11 mph N, overcast, AQI 21

Today is the first anniversary of the creation of this blog. While there are not 365 entries into this blog, as I missed days here and there while traveling, I have managed to write very consistently here. I think that's to the good, although the content may not be as inspiring as a reader might like. I do not know how many people are actually reading this blog on any regular basis, and at times it does feel like writing into the void. But it has the benefit of acting as a record of what I have been doing with the days of my life, and for that I think it's OK. I never set out to have it become more than it continues to be - a recounting of the previous day's activities. Why anyone would find this compelling or interesting reading is beyond me, but perhaps in the future my children will see it and have an account of a year in the life of their older dad. Maybe that will be the value of continuing on, and that might be enough. So - on to year 2.

Yesterday was quite a peaceful day. It rained heavily in the morning, so no walk. After the morning routine, DW made some scrambled eggs, and I had a bagel my brother had brought up from home, with cream cheese. I went out after breakfast and placed a few more cat deterrent balls out in the front yard, and tied up the ones in the back yard. I don't have a clear idea yet if they are working or not, but I've not seen the black-and-white cat in a few days. Time will tell.

I checked up on my rotisserie team, and also bought a subscription to ESPN Select so we can watch the month of Womens Pro Baseball. I gave the info to my kids. I chatted a bit with Son2 and made arrangements to meet him Wednesday for lunch while I am in his city getting my ears examined. I then watched the condensed ballgame from Saturday, which was a loss. The trade deadline for MLB is coming up today, and I am trying to keep track of all the trades happening.

After all those small tasks I began to scour AirBnB once again for a place for the winter in SV. The costs are going up, and the lickings are thin. DW suggested we text the person whose apartment we were in last winter, and she got back to us and said her place would be open again. So perhaps we will return there. It was good enough, as they say.

I'm actually a little torn about going out again. It's nice not to have to deal with the snow and winter, but I don't like being out of my house either. And the time it takes to get there can be wearing. We have tried to think about a replacement, but nothing matches the combination of warmth and sunshine you find in the southwest. This may be the last year we go - who knows?

At this point the day's afternoon ball game came on, and I watched that. The team made one 2-run HR stand up for a win. A little shaky, but a win is a win. I found out later than they traded for a LH power bat, which IMO is not what they need. It should have been a RH power bat. We will see how this pans out.

I responded to an email from a friend on buying new networking equipment, and while I was doing the research I saw a new mesh network for $149, so I bought it. My network has been finnicky of late, and I want to see if this mesh network will help. I went from a single router to some extenders, but they don't quite do the same job. I had a mesh network before, so let's see if this gives better and steadier converage.

Dinner was a Korean rice bowl, which is basically seasoned ground beef over rice with veggies on the side. Not bad. Then DW and I settled in for another Womens Pro Baseball game. The level of play is not very high, but I am hoping over time it gets better and better. It's going to take a good decade of work to bring up and develop better players, but the league has to find a consistent pipeline of players. Collegiate softball works for professional softball, but there is no collegiate womans baseball, which is a huge disadvantage. We'll be seeing a couple of games in person, and I am very interested in seeing if they can survive financially.

After the game it was kitchen cleanup and bedtime. I lingered a bit to see if any late trades went through, and hit the pillow around 11:20 PM.

That's all for now. 'Til We Meet Again!
