Hey There!
It's 8:44 AM EDT, 71°F, Humidity 86%, Wind 5 mph NE, mainly clear
Yesterday was a bit of a return to normalcy. I went through my morning routine as per usual, but decided against a walk. I need to get out today, though, and get back started.
After my morning routine I started off by watching the condensed game. I am really starting to like watching condensed games on MLB.com. If I get more into the habit of this, perhaps I'd have more free time in the evening. To do what, I am not sure. We got another win, but at this point all that's left really are the playoffs, and everyone is preparing for those.
I got caught up short a little bit because I thought my day's interview was at 11:30, but it was at 11. So with 10 minutes to spare I got my interview gear set up and ready. The interview went fine, so no problems there. This is going to be my last year doing this podcast for the local performing arts venue. As with many things you give up in life, I will miss some of it, but not all of it. I think DW would rather I continue doing it, as it gives me a project and keeps me busy. And she's right, but it also puts me on a schedule and gives me deadlines, and there's something about that I would rather no longer have in my life.
After the interview, I spent the better part of the day once again with my computer projects. The conundrum I am facing is which of my Linux laptops to keep. The MacLinux is a no-brainer, and that is my couch computer. It's between the HP 14 Stream I just bought, and the Toshiba CB2 2015 I turned into a Linux laptop a few years ago. I spent some time with Lumo, an AI I use from Proton, making comparisons. The HP wins on sheer power, but the Toshiba wins on ease of use and comfort. The Toshiba's screen is the best I've ever used, and the backlit keyboard is superb, as are the speakers. I think the Toshiba is the best all-around laptop I've ever had, but it's now over 10 years old. I still haven't made up my mind, and now I feel silly for having bought the Stream, even though it was only $65.
I discovered that one of the miniPCs is probably junk. I took it apart to look inside, and I pulled on the ribbon that connects up the SSD. That was a mistake, as getting it back in was not easy. When I put it back together, it would not boot. So I will take the drive from it, since I can't wipe it, and recycle it.
My second miniPC, which has both a Linux and a Windoze drive in it, booted up and seemed to operate just fine. I updated both operating systems, but now I have to figure out whether or not it will work in the long run. It gets hot, and I wonder if the heat means it's too hot to continuously work. I am unsure about that. So more testing.
Finally, I checked into what it would take to use the Mac Mini as a home server. I am still not sure I need one, but only if I can get one up and running will I know for sure. Lumo gave me instructions, but they seemed overly complicated. I will continue to investigate.
Dinner was a nice grilled steak with some vegetables, sweet corn, and some home fries. DW added a beet to her dish. I hate beets, and we have a running gag about how much she loves them and I hate them. Between beets and asparagus it's the same routine. She tries to cook and eat both when I am not around.
After dinner we watched an episode of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, and this episode was great! It's all I love about Star Trek. Adventure, the ship about to explode, everyone stressed out, success at the last possible moment. I wish they all were like this.
While I went to close up what I had been working on upstairs, DW tuned into the Women's Baseball League game between the NY Heights and the LA Queens. I came down to watch most of the game, which the Heights won, 17-8. This is the last week of league play, and playoffs begin next week. The heat dome in the Midwest was apparent, as even after the sun went down the temperature at the game was 86 degrees. Very hot out there this week. The game basically took me to bedtime, although I did check on one or two things before heading to bed at 11:22 PM.
That's all for now. 'Til We Meet Again!
