This is the 25th anniversary of the destruction of the Twin Towers in New York City. It's the event that created the world, the society, and the politics we have in the US today. Whether we admit it or not, Osama bin Laden won, as he executed an event that not only killed nearly 3000 people, but through the fear and hate it created, turned us against ourselves.
Yesterday I went out for a round of golf in the morning. The course was damp but playable. I am by no means a golfer, but I got off a few good shots along with many poorer ones. I managed to par the final hole, a long par 3. It always feels good to get at least one par per nine holes. My partner and I always walk, so at the end I'm usually fatigued, and by the time I get home I am sore.
I sat for some of the afternoon knowing I had reached the day's limit of physical activity. During our conversation while playing, the achievement of Dale Sanders came up, who had just finished his second thru-hike of the Appalachia Trail to re-take the title of the oldest person to complete a thru-hike at 91. I spent some time researching how he did it. He had a lot of help, as he carried a light slackpack with a camper truck for support. I tried to find out who was the oldest person to complete a thru-hike unassisted with a full packout, but could not find an answer. I think it would be an achievement for an older person to complete the trail with a typical packout and no logistical assistance.
I got the word from my boss that the person we thought might be doing some interviews for the podcast does not have the technology to do so, and I am assuming the boss does not want to pay to equip him. So I am back to doing the interviews for live music acts. I spent some time yesterday writing emails to people I want to have on the next episode, and am awaiting their replies. I also spent a little time taking a look at some of the reactions on line to Apple's new Duo phone. IMO it's just a luxury status symbol elites and elite wanna-bes, and it's far too expensive for what it offers. I am very tech-averse these days, so it all gets a hard pass from me. I wrote about this on my public blog.
My 7-in-1 solar extension was delivered, and I went to install it, but the 3-ft. length turned out to be too short, so I ordered an extension. Once I get the extension installed my in-home solar charging setup should be complete. It's not much by way of wattage, but at least it's there and available given enough time and sun.
Dinner was, at my cajoling, a sort of Cincinnati chili meal - a beef and beans sauce on top of spaghetti. I love these kinds of meals, and this one was quite good. DW tends to like more complex meals, but gave in to my whining.
After dinner I went to watch the ball game, and DW prepared to watch the Womens Professional Baseball League playoff game between the Heights and the Queens. My game was another easy win for the team 10-3, while in the end the Heights fell to the Queens by the same score of 10-3. The story there was no offense. The Heights will have to do better at the plate to avoid elimination.
After the games I cleaned up in the kitchen, and then began to listen to a podcast that was recommended to me, But it was late, and the podcast was an hour long, so I decided to leave it for today and go to bed at 11:02 PM.
