Hey There!

It's 8:02 AM EDT, 51°F, Humidity 64%, Wind 7 mph SW, sunny

Yesterday was a slightly interrupted day. My leg and hip are continuing to bother me, so I did not add a walk to my morning routine. I felt very sluggish all day long, as if having a physical hangover from playing golf on Wednesday. I really felt physically down and depressed most of yesterday.

After I finally got showered and ready to start the day, DW and I headed out for our annual apple buying day. We no longer pick the apples ourselves; we simply buy what's available on the shelf. We have a local place maybe 12 minutes away that's our go-to location.

While driving there, I got a call from the tree service owner that, if I was available, he could have his people there in the afternoon. I agreed, so DW and I bagged the small drive we were going to take to get home with the apples and be ready for the tree service crew to arrive.

They showed up a little after 1:00 PM, and stayed about 90 minutes. It was like a little show - very entertaining. They had this spider-like bucket that rose into the air which they used to trim the top of the tree, while another guy stood on my roof and shaped the tree from that side. They did a very good job, and watching the spider bucket move in and around the tree was very cool. The best thing about this spider lift was that it left almost no trace in the back yard - it did not dig into the lawn at all. We chatted with the operator, remarking that it was like a radio-controlled car you had as a kid, only much bigger and way more expensive. You could actually control this thing by remote control, which he did to get it in and out of the yard via the driveway.

After they cleaned up and took off, DW decided to make some apple crisp, which was very tasty. In the meantime, we sent a few of the pictures I took of the tree-trimming, and my daughter happened to mention in the conversation that she wanted to see an old project I had done just after graduate school. I tried to find the video clips because I thought I had them saved somewhere on a hard drive, but so far have not come up with them. I could not find them on line either. It's going to be a tough search.

I attempted a nap around 4:30, but couldn't completely fall asleep. So I passed the time on YouTube until dinner, which was leftover chicken cacciatore light over rice. Usually sometime in a week we have so many leftovers in the fridge that it makes a meal in itself.

After dinner, I watched most of the game between the Guardians and the White Sox. I was pleased to see Cleveland won, and there will be a deciding game on Saturday night. I did not stay up for the entire game, deciding to go to bed when Cleveland took the commanding lead of 9-4. The White Sox added one run to their total in the end. Bedtime came at 11:25 after all clean-up duties were complete.

Notable deaths: Bill Harris, the kidnapper of Patty Hearst and leader of the 70s revolutionary group the Symbionese Liberation Army, 81.

Margaret Hamilton, the first female programmer hired to work on the space project at M.I.T., 90.

That's all for now. 'Til We Meet Again!
