Hey There!
It's 8:18 AM EDT, 44°F, Humidity 87%, Wind 6 mph E, sunny
The fine autumn weather continues. I cannot recall the like. People are even complaining that it's too dry. They may have a point.
Yesterday was a comfortable day. After my morning routine, I sat down and banged out three emails to prospective interviewees for my next podcast edition. I also found a series of presentations I was a part of from back in 1982. They were something my daughter mentioned wanting, and so I've been looking for them for the past week. They came up in one of the 4 backup drives I have. Now I have to post them for her to view.
I showered up, and went out for a lunch date with a recently retired colleague. We ended up having a 4-hour conversation, moving from the restaurant to the coffee shop. It's always a treat to be able to sit with someone else and just carry on a conversation for 4 hours. Our worldviews are similar, but we both tend to the unorthodox in our viewpoints. I think, now that he's retired, we may do this more often.
I got home about 5 PM, and started going through other news and blogs. I have been thinking about moving my public blog to another platform, but after doing some research, the value for money is just not there if I go elsewhere. I just have to make some adjustments at my current provider to continue to eliminate the noise. However, I have decided to pay the $9 annual fee to Mataroa for this blog and go up to the Premium level. I did that not because I needed the Premium features, but because I wanted to support the platform after using it for over a year for free. It's earned my $9.
Dinner was a hamburger (no bun) with home fries and a salad. I didn't eat the salad, as I was surprisingly still a tad full from lunch. There were some leftover onions and peppers to put on the hamburger.
After dinner I indulged in a new pastime - reading random blogs. Using Kagi Smallweb, I bring up random blogs and read them. Most of the time I bring up a blog which is uninteresting or too technical. But occasionally I hit on something worth reading. It feels better than going down YouTube rabbit holes. I read a very insightful post on the thesis that smartphones cause us to see the world as digital moments to be captured and shared, not real moments to be experienced and felt. I also read another post on the history of the photo essay through magazines like Life and Paris Match. I wrote a small post on my public blog linking the first post I read. There's a lot of crap to wade through in this process, but the gems you find make it worth it.
I finished the day by cleaning up the kitchen and heading to bed around 11:15 PM.
