Hey There! It's 2:00 PM EST
Another ordinary day consisting of some mundane tasks. I seem to have adjusted to standard time, as I am getting up later in the morning now, around 7:45 AM or so. This morning I had to clean the kitchen because last night I went down a YouTube rabbit hole of videos talking about Black Friday deals at various big box stores. I think I am watching too much You Tube these days.
My senior tech student is doing fine. She's been keeping her inbox clean and uncluttered, she's been reading what she wants to read by using her emailed subscriptions, and she seems to be able to make phone calls via Siri. She uses Siri now to dictate text messages and emails. A lot of progress has been made, and ever since I've weaned her off using the SubStack app, she's doing much better with the basics. I wish there was a dedicated piece of tech that would handle only emails, texts, and phone messages, and had nothing else on it. Perhaps I can strip her iPad down to these features only.
She also wanted me to find some hidden emails on her computer, which I did. I am going to get her old Mac Mini from her when she'd done reading the emails and deletes them. I might turn that into a Mac/Linux combo machine, which would be not too shabby. If I like how it functions, I might upgrade to the last Intel model of the Mac Mini and get the fastest combo possible.
Took a nap when I got back home. I've been tired of late, much more so than it seems I should. Then a nice pork chop for dinner, the YouTube rabbit hole, and bed. I'm a night owl, so bed is around 11-11:30pm.
When DW came downstairs we went and took our second car to a friend of hers who might need a car for a week. She and her husband are heading to Florida for the winter and they are having their car shipped, but there might be a period of time between when the car gets picked up, and when they fly out. They live in the country and can't be without a car because of medical reasons. So we lent them our second car until they leave.
On the way back I got adventurous and decided to try the small Hunter's Cafe in a backwater small town. Maybe not the best choice. There was no breakfast; only lunch. You ordered at the counter and they brought the food over to you. There were maybe four tables tucked in the corner. All retired old men. I discovered that a New Holland spreader that used to cost $4,300 way back when now costs $40K. The deer are active and on the move. There was a single gentleman eating a fish fry breakfast. I had a delux bacon burger, while DW had a grilled chicken sandwich. The coffee did not look too good. The entire store was restaurant, grocery, hardware, liquor and gas station store all in one. It was both fascinating and depressing at the same time. I'm unsure how long it might last. They had to close the restaurant on Sundays at the end of last August. Haven't been in a restaurant like that in a long time.
Today is a dreary day with rain and wind. Autumn is becoming deeper, although in some spots there are still bright red and gold leaves to be seen. Might even see a few flakes this coming weekend.
I finished my reading project today, and later tonight I am ushering at the local arts venue. Then off tomorrow to substitute for Son2's class as well as teaching my own. Long day ahead tomorrow.
