Hey There! It's 7:56 AM, 50°F, Wind 11 mph NE, mostly sunny
Yesterday was a day where I got a few things done, but the things I got done were not things that made me feel I got anything done. They were just things I did that passed the time.
I started off OK I think. I took my morning walk, and since I took the EV to the park, I messed around a bit with some of the settings and set up an experiment that I've already blown. I had a full charge, so I set both tripometers to zero to try and measure how many miles I would actually travel one one charge, and compare that to what the car's computer was telling me. I also took a few pictures to send off to the kids and other interested parties. Then I drove over to the cardiologist's office to pick up a handicap application that we were hoping to obtain. DW was not qualified to get one through the cardiologist, so now we have to try the podiatrist. Then I drove home.
I had breakfast, and then I decided, since it was still a little chilly even though sunny, I would clean out my desk drawers as a first step towards downsizing and throwing things out. My desk drawers were full of all kinds of odds and ends, so I took four boxes I had and put every item into an appropriate box. I had a box for large items, a box for cables with Type A USB cords, a box for Type C USB cords, and a box for audio cords. Then I had to grab a box for solar items. In the process I found two things I had been looking for, to wit: my hearing aids (I am now trying to wear these on a daily basis), and the extra battery for my DJI Neo drone. I had ordered an extra one so I could have two for the upcoming playground installation I'm filming, so now I have three. I also found the power cord to charge up a power screwdriver that had been living in the bottom of the large drawer. It might be usable now! While I was at it, I also cleaned out a large plastic bowl filled with more junk, and the wooden bowl that sits next my couch seat.
Some of the things I put away in a file cabinet drawer, and while I was in that drawer I threw away all the at-home Covid 19 tests sitting therem making a little more room. That's when I noticed the two laptops sitting there. One is an Asus 11-inch former Windoze machine with 2GB of RAM and maybe a 90GB SSD in it now running Xubuntu. The other is converted Toshiba CB-2015 Chromebook now running Mint Linux. Once I finished the drawers I decided to see what condition these two machines are in. Pretty good, as it turns out (this post is being written on the Toshiba). I think the Asus really needs to have Lubuntu running on it, since it's a pretty small and slow machine (with a bright but highly glossy screen). The Chromebook is running very well indeed with the latest version of Mint Linux on it. This is the computer I usually take up to the campsite when I stay overnight. It also has a bright screen but is not as reflective as the Asus.
At any rate, that killed the rest of the afternoon. But as it approached dinnertime, I felt that by fooling around with these computer I was wasting time. I don't need these computers and could have just left them alone and done something productive. I'll just have to let that feeling pass on.
We had a former colleague and neighbor bring over some pulled pork, so that plus a salad was dinner. He makes good pulled pork. Then the ball game came on, so I settled in for that. While having the game on in the background I continued to do some web research on my new EV, learning a couple of new things along the way. I also watched one camping video about side tents, an idea I've thought about while car camping. I got so into things that by the time I looked up and was ready to go to bed, I realized I had not put in my eye drops. So I ended the day doing that. Bedtime was 11:37 PM.
