Hey There! It's 8:05 AM EDT, 70°F, Humidity 96%, Wind 20 mph SW, sunny
It's breezy this morning, and the interesting thing is that, while it seems nice outside, the breeze is keeping me inside. The air is a bit more stale and heavy inside, however.
Yesterday wasn't much of a day. I did not take a walk yesterday, and for the life of me cannot remember why. Maybe I am getting lazy or unmotivated.
I sort of pissed away the morning. I wanted to solve the mystery of why I can't get access to backup hard drives I put on the home network. It just bugs me that that's the case. I got nowhere yesterday other that to realize getting a dirve formatted in Windows NT is an issue. I still have all these computers lying about and I don't know what to do with them It's getting under my skin a bit, to be honest. I also tried out the old Mac Mini I got from my technology senior I was working with before leaving for AZ. It's really too slow for anything. So my efforts of the morning really amounted to zilch.
I'm also struggling with where to write my tweets. I started with Sourcefeed, then came here to Mataroa. But Mataroa seems to have issues with their XML feed posting with a correct time stamp. Everything posts at 8:00 PM, and so it doesn't help in terms of time line issues. I think because the servers are in Europe that Mataroa doesn't handle time zones at all. So I may go back to Sourcefeed. Or maybe it's just not wirth the effort.
In the afternoon I decided I had to test the range of the EV as I prepare to use it for commuting to my upcoming project. I drove it on back roads at 40 MPH, and with 45 miles in the tank it made it OK, but there wasn't enough charge left to get home. This I had planned, because there's a charger in the town that I wanted to try. So I drove to the charger, downloaded the company's app, and managed to get the process going for charging at Level 2. It took me 20 minutes to charge from where I was to 89%, and it cost $1.30. Perfect. I had enough to get home and even do an errand or two if I wanted. So I know now that I can use the EV for commuting, which is exactly what I wanted. I did all this in the midst of pouring rain and thunder. It's always a refreshing feeling when a front passes through a squeezes all that moisture out of the air.
I had some nachos when I got home, and the few hours before dinner doing research on That 70s Show, which was awful. I am interviewing one of the producers of that show later today, who now lives in town, as he is doing some sort of performance at the performing arts center later in the summer. What an awful show! I am not looking forward to this interview at all.
Dinner was pasta with cauliflower, a favorite of DW's, but not me. It's OK once in a blue moon, but I am not a fan of the dish. After dinner there was no baseball game, but eventually DW and I decided to watch a movie. I don't like watching movies either, but we watched a Spencer Tracy/Katherine Hepburn movie called Keeper of the Flame, which I had never seen. I was completely surprised when the ending of the movie turned out some prophetic dialogue that sounds as relevant today as it did in 1942. The plot twist was that the man so admired by the public was in fact a ruthless demogogue planning the takeover of the US and turning it into a fascist state, under the cover of "Americanism." The times never change; neither do the methods. Only the cast of characters is different, and then in name only.
I cleaned up the kitchen after the movie, and then found a clip on YouTube of the reveal speech by Katherine Hepburn, so I posted it on my front-facing blog. People will read it, perhaps be somewhat surprised as I was by the relevance for today, but shrug and move on. This is, of course, the phrase that defines becoming old: the world has moved on. Bedtime was 11:20 because I forgot to put my evening eyedrops in.
'Til We Meet Again!
