Hey There! It's 8:15 AM EDT, 81°F, Humidity 73%, Wind 6 mph SW, sunny. Heat advisories remain in effect.
Yesterday was Cardioversion #2 for DW, and the entire day was taken up with this procedure. I went through my morning routine as usual, but I had a little extra breakfast, figuring I might not get a lunch break until later in the day. We decided to get there a little early, so we left for the hospital about 9:45 AM.
We took advantage of the $10 valet parking and went in. After checking in, we ended up in a large room with 4 small curtained-off areas. There were other patients in there as well for their procedures. They did all the usual things that you go through to get prepped, and then once all that was done, we waited.
We weren't scheduled for the procedure until about 1:15PM, but as it turned out she did not get taken upstairs until around 2:45PM or so. So of course there was nothing to do but wait. So we sat there and waited. She got a little hungry and thirsty while waiting, because she wasn't supposed to eat or drink until the procedure was over.
Once she was taken upstairs, I went down to the cafeteria for lunch. It was pretty shabby down there. I grabbed some sushi and an apple and ate that while watching Spain/Austria on a Spanish language station from one of the TVs in the cafeteria. I caught the children up on the situation, bought a couple of Clif Bars for DW for when she came out, and then went back upstairs.
She was done by around 4PM. We had to wait at least 30 minutes for recovery, but her blood pressure did not come down very fast. Also, the nurse we had appeared unfocused and scattered. DW needed an ointment for the burn marks, but the doctor didn't put the ointment on the release papers, and the nurse seemed befuddled by the whole thing, trying to get the cream and failing. By 5:30 DW's BP was low enough to leave, and we left without the cream because she said she had a little left over from another situation at home. We finally arrived back home at 6:45 PM.
We had a lot of leftovers in the fridge, so I pulled them all out and we each had the leftovers of our choice. DW had the chicken teriyaki on rice, and I had a burrito. Then we sat down to watch The Sheep Detectives, which was a nice, calm way to end the day. It was the perfect movie for the moment.
DW went up to bed shortly thereafter, but I stayed downstairs for about another hour. I found a video of a guy who took Amtrak cross-country, and this is something I've always wanted to do. I actually didn't get through the whole video, just from Seattle to Chicago, so the second half from Chicago to New York awaits.
All in all, a bit of an unusual day, but hopefully her Afib Is under control for a spell. The experience was several degrees worse than the last time, as there was much more waiting, and the staff this time seemed less on the ball (the IV was also mangled a bit). But the main thing is her heart is back in rhythm; how long this one will last is anyone's guess.
After cleaning the kitchen, bedtime was 11:30 PM.
