Hey There! It's 11:17 AM MST, 61°F, sunny
Yesterday was some day! I am not sure I can capture it all in words, but I had a lot of fun, and this morning am paying the price.
I started off early with a shortened version of my morning routine. I had a riding date with a local guy who produces a YouTube channel concentrating on his motorcycle rides and gear, and he owns a Trail 125. He put on my new windshield, and he offered to have me join him for a ride. So I started getting ready for the ride.
DW had not had a restful night, so she was sort of moping about and at one point actually went back to bed. I got a few things together, but I got stuck trying to put together a new mount for my GPS. It was another of my many "not good with tools" moments. In the end, I was unable to put it together correctly, so I just gave up and decided that F had all the GPS gear we'd need, and I had my phone. However, without the USP port working, I needed to bring along a power bank. In my haste, however, I forgot it. But I did have my hiking GPS, which did come in handy for tracking the trip back.
I met up with F at noon and off we went. We headed towards a mountain range which served as a stronghold for the Apache chief Cochise during the Apache war. The road was absolutely incredible - just the kind of off-road riding I've been dreaming about. There were easy patches, rocky sections, sandy sections, twists and turns, small stream crossings - everything except impossible hills to climb. The road dead-ended by a small spring surrounded by oak and sycamore trees and a primitive campsite. The road features a number of campsites along the way, with several of them occupied by everything from motor homes to tents. I don't know how this one huge motorhome ever got down the road. We also saw some wild-looking guy in an Audi sports car trying to get down the road. Crazy. I think I may have to go back one day and spend a night camping. The area is more like savannah than desert.
I returned home maybe about 4:30, and was pretty beat. I took three Advil in advance of the aches and pains I knew would set it. I felt pretty sore but very fufilled. Dinner was some halibut we bought at the farmer's market last week, and it was very thick and tasty, not the thin shit you get in the grocery store frozen. A salad and sweet potato rounded out the meal
I tried to watch a few more Sidetrack Adventures, but I fell asleep in my chair for maybe 30 minutes. When I woke up I managed to stay awake until 10PM, but couldn't make it any further. I really overslept this morning at 8:40 AM. I'm still a little sore and tired, but after coffee this morning I'm not too bad. Not saying I could go out again right now, but I think I'll recover by tomorrow. Quite the day. The bike needs a washing as well.
