Hey There! It's 6:48 AM PDT, 35°F (La Grande OR), cloudy

Yes, it's been a while. I don't know that I have any good excuse other than to say we've been packing up for the trip back east, visiting with our daughter, and generally filling up the days. Most of my routine is completely out of whack from when I am home, and so writing in this blog daily has become a victim of that reality. I'm not going to beat myself up about it; it is what it is. So I will do the best I can to summarize summarize the days since returning from Japan to today.

Jet lag is part of the culprit. I didn't suffer as bad as my brother and SIL, who actually got physically ill, but they flew over three more time zones than I did. But the fatigue caught up with me, and my sleep pattern became random. I'd fall asleep for two hours in the afternoon, and then have trouble sleeping through the night, or even falling asleep, at my usual time. Then one day I slept for about 10 hours, waking up at 9:15 AM. So trying to get adjusted to a normal circadian rhythm was not unexpected, but challenging.

On Monday our daughter spent the day with us, as she took off from work. We did not do anything particularly exciting, but she and DW have been out and about meeting Daughter's circle of friends. We've been spending dinner together, which has been nice.

Tuesday I went over to Daughter's apartment and put together an over-the-stove shelf for her which she had bought a while back. She appears to like it, and we'll see how well it works for her. I also changed out her toilet seat, as the wooden one she had was cracked. DW was not liking that cracked toilet seat.

Wednesday was packing day. We packed up most of our stuff into the car until we were down to hotel suitcases. I don't know how it happens, but it always feels like we return with more stuff than we left with. If we ever do this again there will be some serious stuff reduction.

We had dinner that night in a nice Italian restaurant. I was leaning to a seafood dish, but got seduced by a steak special, which turned out to be more like a stew than a pasta dish. It was OK, but I think in the end I should have followed my instincts. DW and Daughter had a teary goodbye after she dropped us home.

And Thursday we took off after finishing packing up the car. The drive was uneventful, but the scenery driving the Columbia River Gorge was very nice. We arrived really early at the hotel, and I fell asleep really early as well.

So you're caught up! I will work towards more entries as we mosey on home.

'Til We Meet Again!
