Hey There!
It's early this morning, as I have a lot to do before leaving on a week-long road trip tomorrow. It should be a fun trip, but there's no use in denying that part of me would just like to stay home and get a few more things accomplished before summer ends. The weather has actually been OK, with summer-like temps and unusually low humidity. Nice camping weather. But this trip has been planned since early summer; no backing out.
I had to destroy a beehive last night buried in a mound of dirt sitting in my back yard (one of those "few more things" I'd like to get done). I threw some gas around it and did a first burn. Then I drowned it. Then I sprayed what was left of some hornet and wasp killer. This morning I've burned it again and then mashed it up with a shovel. I hope it all works. I've nothing against bees for the most part, but having them right in that dirt pile was too close to the house and back porch. There are still one or two buzzing around the destroyed hive. Hopefully they'll find a new home.
Yesterday was also filled with a couple of annoying errands. A portable A/C unit I ordered from Amazon came with a massive puncture wound in the coils, and I had to send it back. It meant repairing the shipping box with duct tape, and hauling the 55lb unit back to UPS. I traveled to the campsite to get a hand dolly I had there, which was mighty helpful. It saved me a lot of lifting.
Then I tried to make a mobile deposit for a check we had received from our Roth IRA to cover some large expenses. My credit union's mobile app seemed to take the deposit just fine. Then we got an email from the credit union saying they could't accept the check because it was over the limit for mobile deposits. You think they'd have something in the app to let you know what the limit is, or to refuse the transaction. So I had to drive down to the CU to make an in-person deposit. Not the worst, really, but inconvenient. I had to remember, though, that even 10 years ago I would have had to drive to the CU regardless. It is quite interesting how, when something becomes more convenient and you get used to that convenience, things you used to do that you though nothing of now become irritating. It's hard to believe that I ever used to go to Blockbuster to rent movies and DVDs.
DW's VegePod has been yielding some very sweet cherry tomatoes. I've been looking for sweet corn, and found one place that I really did not want to buy from, but it seems these days the pickings are much less than years ago. Many small stands are going out of business as the owners get older and no one takes over. I think this is happening all over the region. Poverty and low income is more common here than people may be aware of, and the region is losing population due to lack of jobs and abandonment of agriculture. I do not know how to stop it.
And the news keeps getting worse nationally as the societal cancer continues to spread. It's necessary to realize that the current President does not want the job or responsibility; he merely wants the power. And he does not want the power so as to rule over people; he wants the power merely as a means to enrich himself and his cronies. The incredible mass ignorance and denial continues to have its cancerous effect on the nation. I am not a fan of toxic positivity. Nothing is going to change because there is no will by the people to make it change. As long as the people are sheep on both sides, the cancer will grow. The liberal sheep do not want to disturb their comfortable lives, while the conservative sheep believe they will gain more power and wealth by dropping any pretense of fairness and grabbing as much power as they can muster. The cancer will not care what style of sheep you are.
I've got one load of laundry in already, with maybe five more to go. Our larger washer's timer broke, so I have to do all my wash in the smaller stacked unit upstairs. It's all good. I have enough time today to get everything done if I can stick to it and not get lazy or bored. On the road tomorrow.
